Outlook sort by name, but can't jump to name

I just tried the NEW outlook.

I can sort by names A-Z, but then I have to scroll to find the person.

The old outlook, I could just type the first letter and it would jump to that name.

Is there a setting in the new outlook that allows you to jump to the letter when typed?

Are you sure the ones working are using the "NEW" Outlook?

I found the fix, or at least for my situation.

Right click on a column header, then view settings.

    Click on "other settings"

Under "Other options" make sure to check "Use compact layout in widths smaller than"

For me, this affected the ability to jump to a name (or subject if I sorted that column).

These "view settings" and then "other settings" is only able to be seen if you're using Old/Classic Outlook. Right-clicking column headers in the New Outlook does not give this option.

My work submitted a ticket to microsoft and they have not been able to fix the issue. I am the only one at work with that issue, everyone else is able to sort and find e-mails by typing the first letter of the name. The ticket has now been escalated, but still no fix and it's been over 6e months that Microsoft is didly dadling and can't resolve the issue. I am able to sort and find name by typing the first letter in all of the other folders ie. sent folder, deleted folder or any folder except for the inbox!

I don't have that issue with my personal computer!

I hope they find the issue, but by the time they do, I will have retired! No pun intended, it's a fact! June 28th! But I hope they find an issue for all of you.
