How to permanently prevent Outlook for Mac from switching to the new GUI?

I really can't stand the "new" Outlook. I tried it and the main issue I was having is that it would hide any email older than 30 days and there was no way to change a setting to get all emails. I reverted back to Classic and yet it did not merge the emails received when trying the new version. A few days ago, as of September 20, 2023, it told me that I would be back into the new version upon my next start with no option to remain with Classic. Now I have lost all my emails from this month (September). It is impossible to talk to a real live person and they keep reverting back to these forums rather than actually helping someone to make the new version work properly. The emails lost are needed for work so this is unacceptable. It might be time to dump Outlook completely and go back to Mac Mail.

You hit the nail on the head... like I couldn't have said it more precisely in every way. I too have been an outlook user for decades... I too switched from PC to Mac out of frustration with Windows and I too feel a serious lack of respect from Microsoft.

I really, honestly, don't think they care at all about us. I'm at the cusp of moving to a different mail platform simply out of frustration with Outlook. The only reason I've held over is because I'm so familiar with it... but forcing me to adopt a broken "new look" over and over again when I click the "no thanks, revert" button like a dozen times now is enough to make me bail complete on MS... even Word, Excel, Powerpoint - there are other options.

This is infuriating for me - they want to get rid of customers, this is how you do it... and it's why Apple stock keeps climbing... thanks Microsoft.

Hey Microsoft, why not try listening to us. Only some people post questions or concerns online, 90% of your customers DON'T.

The interim fix is to open Outlook, go to HELP, click Revert....Gee outlook for mac, how about giving us a permanent solution? The new outlook simply is attractive to young geeks not those of us who have been using Outlook for DECADES.....SHOW SOME RESPECT.

Disappointed as usual with Microsoft. Why I switched to Apple. This is my one holdover. May be time to boot them for good.

Yes, the prompt to switch to New Outlook will not appear anymore and it will not switch to New Outlook interface automatically.

Now hopefully this also means that if there’s an updated version somewhere down the line, it will be similar or better than we have today with our tried and trusted old/legacy/current/normal version.

After the last update, there should be an option to indicate you don't want the switch to happen. There should be a pop-up window where you would be able to indicate not getting the question again. That did not work in my case, so, with the assistance of a local Microsoft representative, I was able to reset my installation and then use this Terminal command to at least get rid of the switch. I don't know if this will prevent a switch to happen in the future.

My advice is to reach out to Microsoft every single time you bump into this issue. And even if you don't get that auto-switch nonsense but like the legacy/normal/current version better than the new: contact Microsoft and let your voice be heard.
