How to permanently prevent Outlook for Mac from switching to the new GUI?

** update I saw in a another thread that I need to quit outlook, then put the code in terminal and then restart Outlook. How do I know if I did the default I already did with Outlook open was done right from what I did above?

Or do I need to quit Outlook and then do the default write again. So confused and afraid to quit outlook bc if I did this wrong the new outlook will automatically open. Yikes!

You have to quit Outlook in order to disable new Outlook from Terminal. I would suggest quitting, and running the 'defaults write...' command again. Then re-launch Outlook and you should stay in the old Outlook.

I just enabled it again and see in the current version that 'new Outlook' has been renamed to just Outlook, and original Outlook is now called 'Legacy Outlook'. If you get switched to new upon restarting the app, simply go to the Microsoft Outlook menu and click on Legacy Outlook to switch back. You will see a comment window asking why you're switching back at this point; you can simply write 'new outlook sucks' like I do. ;-)

Thank you very much; this worked like a charm; an immediate fix! I am very happy to be able to continue using my good 'ol Outlook :-)

Quit Outlook, open Terminal. Copy the following line, paste it into the Terminal window, and press enter.

defaults write com.microsoft.Outlook EnableNewOutlook -int 0

You'll be taken back to the standard prompt, but once you launch Outlook again, you should no longer see the 'New Outlook button and won't be prompted to switch.

I'm just very curious about how many people simply accept the proposed nonsense "new" Outlook version and deal with the issues it has.

Earlier today, I heard my partner exclaim: "Why can't I find all my e-mails? Where's my default signature?". Turns out we forgot to treat one system with the Terminal command to prevent it from switching. Turns out many people accept a GUI change, but get very annoyed when "it doesn't work" anymore.

Switched back to the trusted version and immediately a long list of emails dropped in. All functionality back to normal. Gave it the Terminal command treatment.

@Microsoft: Please, please, please stop this!

Professional users should not need to experience this nonsense!

I agree with this request completely.

New Outlook for Mac does not allow me to move messages to specific folders using rules on an IMAP account. For this reason it is a useless product for me and no amount of fancy UI changes can make me want to move to New Outlook.

I have around 20 different folders and I don't see why I would want to manually move every email that comes in. Unless this feature is added for IMAP accounts I cannot move to New Outlook so I hate being automatically forced into using it every month.

Turn this annoying feature off. You've broken your product, stop forcing me into using it.
