Outlook for Mac is periodically insisting on changing to the new Outlook for Mac experience. I do not want this. Period.
I have tried the New Outlook and reverted back to the current and much-preferred version, since the New Outlook does not suit my needs. Moreover, after an automatic restart into the New Outlook and having to revert, it is not returning to the state it was in. I do not want to use the New Outlook and I certainly don't want to fix all issues after reverting.
How can I permanently prevent Outlook for Mac from forcing me to use (and revert from) the New Outlook?
Can I set a preference so that it will not ambush me again in the future?

I have not found a way to revert back in any of the dropdowns. Very frustrating!

I agree that the old Outlook didn't need fixing. It worked just fine. As it appears that we won't get any helpful answers from Microsoft, can anyone suggest an alternate email program? Has the OS Mail program improved? I had issues with it a few years ago and switched to Outlook but I am seriously considering abandoning it and switching back to Mail.
That is exactly what happened to me. When it told me that it would convert to the new Outlook the next time it was opened it gave me NO option to opt out. The next time it started it was the new version and I have not found a way to revert back in any of the dropdowns. Very frustrating!

New Outlook for MAC is incompatible for work at my school with people running Outlook on PCs.
And reverting time after time after time reduces my productivity. I gave New Outlook for MAC a fair trial and if failed, failed, failed. Even its help features didn't recognize key words, so it was NO HELP at all.
Doing this forced update over and over and over again is an insult to customers.
I just declined New Outlook for MAC again (fifth time?) and it lovingly tells me that it will convert to New Outlook for MAC the next time I open Outlook. This is beyond insulting.
The instructions to disable New Outlook were posted on page 3 by jwcjcjwc. I'll include them below.
Currently the option to disable the prompt window is not available. We have notified the engineering team about this, and the concerned team is working on it. Since this needs to be tested and the fix needs to be rolled out, we would not be able to provide an ETA on the same.
However, if you do not wish to see the prompt anymore, kindly follow the below instructions - 1. Open Terminal (this can be searched from Spotlight located at the top right)2. Type in the commands as under -defaults write com.microsoft.Outlook EnableNewOutlook -int 03. After which, hit enter in TerminalThis should disable New Outlook and the prompts for it.
In response to my question if the terminal command will prevent the switch or just remove the announcement, the answer was:
