Cannot enter recipient email addresses in Outlook on Mac. Any help?

Since today, when I try to compose an email it will let me type in both the subject and body fields (as normal) but not in the 'To' field to enter the recipient's email address.

I click on the 'To' bit and nothing happens. I hover the cursor over it and try to type - nothing happens. I'm blocked out from entering any email addresses.

It means I cannot send any new emails from my account via my desktop. Seems to be just fine from my phone.

It's bizarre and frustrating and I can't find anything about it online.

Desktop is an older iMac using Safari. Never had a problem before.

Microsoft has known about this problem for a long while, yet is not communicating, advising, or owning the problem in any way. Email through Hotmail is at the core of my work and social life, and has been for more than 20 years. A few months ago I had to sign up to the Microsoft paid-for version of Hotmail. as I was warned my storage allocation was used up. So I handed over a lot of money to Microsoft to continue using Hotmail. And here we are, months later, with Hotmail unusable for writing new emails. And Microsoft is fully aware of this problem. So either they cannot fix it, or they don't want to fix it. Either way, they are hiding from their clients. Not a good look is it, Microsoft.

I'm having the same issue on OS 11.6.8. It started happening fairly recently, within the last few weeks, so maybe it is a problem with some recent update. It's very annoying when something that was working fine gets broken.
