Contact list grayed out in Outlook for Mac

Thanks for choosing Microsoft Community.

Based on your description, I know your requirement. In fact, new outlook for mac does not have contact lists now. So the icon is greyed out. You can get more detailed information from New outlook for mac.

Microsoft is updating their products based on customers' need, believe this feature will be available soon. Please be patient to wait for some time. If you want to use this feature now, you can change back to the old outlook as the document said at any time. Your understanding and patience are highly appreciated.

Almost 2 years later and no end in sight. MAKE THIS A THING!!!! Lists are important in corporate email.

At this point, I think we can safely assume that this thread or perhaps this site is not being monitored by anyone at MS, or possibly they just don't care. What started as a lack of email lists 2 years ago has now grown to include several more significant items that were once part of Outlook for Mac, but now have gone MIA, They include - drag-and-drop files, drag-and-drop email addresses from one email to a new one, and the elimination of user side rules/filters in the tools menu. These other items have not disappeared all at once, but slowly over time, and thus we may need to assume that these are planned "deprovements (the opposite of improvements) of Outlook for Mac. The only consistent thing is the pretty colors we can enjoy (LOL)!

Don't you think that that's why Microsoft doesn't want to include the feature? Make the Mac version less useful in the corporate environment? It's part of the anti-competitive behavior that Microsoft is famous for.

Contact lists are available in you switch the GUI to Legacy Outlook.
