Outlook Disconnecting, won't reconnect until rebooted

Starting a few months ago some of our users are reporting that Outlook and Teams disconnect multiple times throughout the day. The only way to fix it is to reboot the machine. They are using Outook for 365 and connecting to a mailbox in Exchange Online. It started with 2 users but more have reported the issue recently.

During the time Outlook & Teams disconnect they do not loose network or internet connection and can open Outlook and Teams on the web.

So far I have tried:

  • Recreating mail profile
  • Disabling cached exchange mode
  • Wiping and re-installing Windows 10 & Office 365

I have listed below the version of Outlook and Window 10 they are using.

Microsoft® Outlook® for Microsoft 365 MSO (Version 2205 Build 16.0.15225.20348) 64-bit

Windows 10

OS build: 19044.1766

Have any of you tried uninstalling Dell Optimizer? Apparently that has worked for some folks in the very recent past. It has not worked for my issue, but ours may be a bad network (our only users having the issue are in one small office). Something to do with it installing ExpressConnect

We are also experiencing the same issue. It started in July for one user and now impacts five users as of August.

    We've tried:

    • Office 365 Online/Full Repair
    • Office 365 Semi-annual and Monthly channel
    • Windows 10 Feature Update to latest
    • Outlook Profile Rebuild
    • AAD Broker Plugin Rebuild
    • Windows User Profile Rebuild
    • Cisco Meraki Balanced vs. Security
    • Cisco Meraki IDS instead of IPS

    Temporary fix:

    • Reboot or log off resolves the issue for a few hours

    Update:

    • Uninstalling Dell Optimizer/ExpressConnect service did resolve this issue for Dell laptops.

Go to Device Manger ( control Panel > Hardware and sound> device manager)

    In device manager

expand network adapters (if its not expanded)

Right Click on your network adapter that the computer is using ( ie wireless or Ethernet)

Goto its properties (bottom choice when you right click)

Goto power tab with in properties and uncheck allow this device to turn off
    Then in the advance tab

Disable the following- (there is a box when you highlight them that says enabled or disabled make sure these are disabled)
    Energy Efficient Ethernet
    Green Ethernet

    power save mode
and any other "power saving" names (every manufacture may use a different term) in that list of settings

    Click ok.

Sometimes these cards Lock themselves into that powersave mode and will not provide more bandwidth. Microsoft sees this and disconnects thinking your trying to save power or its a slow Ethernet. They literally make software to test connections for Microsoft 365 (https://connectivity.office.com/)

.. so if they make it clearly low bandwith or slow ethernet (due to power saving and not waking up) is an issue. You don't realize it because it the computer was on this whole time but it was slowing the nic behind your back. its like putting your phone in powersave... some apps wont alert you if they have it programmed to not work with low power.
    Same for microsoft.

also you can try to NOT allow your pc to goto sleep and or hybernate... as well which could be causing the issue. our office has all of our stuff on full max power 247. However anytime we have an outlook issue.. THESE settings were to blame. What good is green Ethernet if the software doesn't like it.

We are also having the same issue with roughly five users impacted. The odd part is 4 out of 5 users received a new laptop recently. On their old computers they had no issues with Office products.

    We've tried:

    • Office 365 uninstall and reinstall
    • Office Updates
    • Logging out of all office products, removing credentials from credential manager
    • Revoking sessions in Azure forcing users to log back in
    • Numerous password resets
    • Removing users from our MFA policies
    • Removing Teams to determine if that is the culprit

    Can also confirm:

    • Reboot or log off resolves the issue for a few hours
    • Users have no issues using Office.com and apps in the browsers.
