Hi all, today I got an error message when opening Ms. Outlook with the following error message (We cannot render a new actionable message right now. Please close an existing one in Microsoft Outlook and retry) As for what I have done =

*Update office version

*Re-install O365

but neither of those things solved the problem, really appreciate if anyone in this forum can give more advice.

(no problem sending messages via OWA)

To get the fix you need to be on build 15128.36125 and higher. Since you are on MEC channel see if you can update to Version 2208 or higher. This page shows what builds and versions are at each channel, Update history for Microsoft 365 Apps (listed by date) - Office release notes | Microsoft Learn. MEC is at Version 2208 and higher. Try manually updating by clicking File, Office Account, Update Options, Update Now.

This error is still occuring on Microsoft® Outlook® for Microsoft 365 MSO (Version 2209 Build 16.0.15629.20256)

We put some examples of Actionable Messages in this article under "What are actionable messages?", Error when opening Actionable Messages (microsoft.com). Normally they have some action on them. For example, if I send a Quick Poll, that email with the Vote button is an Actionable Message. Or the email that is sent when someone requests access to a group that goes to the Group Admin to approve is an Actionable Message.

I have a user that gets this message opening almost any email. I disabled "action Items" in her outlook add-ins after which she no longer got the error message. I will keep testing this with other users that are getting this error.

I certainly don't have multiple messages open. I only have three Outlook windows open: Inbox, Tasks, and Calendar.

Inbox and Tasks are only showing one message each. That could have an Actionable Message, I suppose, although that isn't anything that I am aware of.

I do flag inbox messages to go to my tasks, so perhaps something behind the scenes is causing Outlook to think that it needs to open these messages.

This started a couple of weeks ago - initially I thought it was related to turning on the "Coming Soon" option as it seemed to start when I turned this option on. But now it is doing it even in the old UX.

Hope this is useful to track down this issue.

    Mark

@Mike Is this happening in emails from one user or multiple users?

We're seeing this to one user from a single user and at this point it seems to only come up when an email with an attachment is opened.
