I was using the file as an example of how we get the dark grey mode turned on in the current Outlook. For the new beta Outlook, you have to click on View/View Settings/General Menu/Appearance: it only gives you the option of dark or light mode. I have tried using settings for apps from Microsoft, but it doesn't change it either.

New Outlook suddenly deciding that it is going to delete all my email accounts causing me to have to spend the time to reload them and reset up the limited preferences allowed. I stumbled upon this thread while trying to format the Inbox layout. In the old outlook I flag items that need to stay to the fore front and then set the background of those flagged items to Yellow. Trying to emulate that in the new outlook (no sorting on anything but dates) I tried the Pin option. That seems to work pretty much OK but the background for those items is so light that it is indiscernible - would like a higher contrast. While I am griping it seems the fashion designers have taken up the majority of the screen real estate. Setting aside the issue of the start thing on the left. The rows of emails have a lot of stuff I would like to turn off, like Month, Older, etc. I totally agree with the folks here say that this is a big step backwards for a piece of enterprise software. PS: looking for .PST capability and only thing I found was a place to request an archive with 4-5 day response via email and a link??

I've got the same issue, I can change to light background for individual messages by clicking the sun symbol And the background goes white But I have to do this for EVERY email, even reopening the same one it'll default back to a dark background. It's feasible as the white background in dark mode works, so shouldn't be too hard to make a setting of Light Theme/Dark Theme AND Light Background/Dark Background as default settings.

My organization just switched to opting into the New Outlook and this is still an issue. Will be switching back to the old version until this is fixed which I can do thankfully.
