New Outlook mode - Light/Dark background setting

Where can I find the below setting when I'm in the "New Outlook" mode:

If you prefer, you can disable dark mode so that the message window is always white when using the black theme. The icons to switch dark mode on or off are disabled when you disable dark mode.

  • In Outlook, go to File > Options.
  • On the General page, look for Personalize your copy of Microsoft Office.
  • Set the Office Theme to Black and select the check box next to Never change the message background color.
  • Select OK.

Thx

File is now "View" under "Settings".

"According to your description, I really understand that you are referring to the current design in New Outlook preview. And based on my research, the removal of the "File" option from the Ribbon in the new Outlook is a deliberate design choice by Microsoft to modernize and simplify the user interface.

The new Outlook for Windows brings the latest features, intelligent assisted capabilities and a new modern and simplified design to your Outlook app. Instead of having a dedicated "File" option on the Ribbon, Microsoft has integrated its functionalities into other areas of the application. For instance, many of the file management tasks can now be accessed through the "Settings" icon located at the top right corner of the Outlook window. This makes it look simpler like outlook on the web. Refer to Getting started with the new Outlook for Windows - Microsoft Support."

As a sidenote, it is odd that Word for the web does allow a dark UI with the document contents remaining in light mode.

If Word has such an option, one wonders why New Outlook does not...
