How to Open Emails in Separate Window in New Outlook

I like to open unread emails in a new window vs the email window. It sometimes works by double clicking but not very often. Is there a trick I'm missing?

    I've just 'upgraded' (if you can call it that) to the new version of Outlook and instantly got frustrated by this. I could be imagining this, but it seems like if I double-click quick enough, like as quick as I can, then it opens in a new window, but if I'm too slow then it opens in the reading pane.

    It doesn't seem to have anything to do with the double-click speed set in the mouse settings.

    Thanks. This must be a recent addition due to the massive response [outcry] on the issue. I'll take your word for it - still far too much missing functionality to switch over to the new Outlook.
