How to Open Emails in Separate Window in New Outlook

Wow, that's really dumb. Why do you want to lose landscape by having the reading pane open when you plan to open in a new window? And it still doesn't allow you to move to the next email in the list without going back to the email list. It just closes the email in the new window. I opened a feedback @ https://feedbackportal.microsoft.com/feedback/idea/213387ca-4cf3-ed11-a81c-000d3ae5b6f4 if anyone want to upvote.

It seems that when I HIDE the Reading Pane then double-clicking the message will NOT open it in a new window. On the other hand, when I have the Reading Pane displayed (only tested it with Reading Pane on the right side) then double-clicking will open the message in a new window.

The Reading Pane should not impact the behavior of the double-click in my opinion.

I don’t think that’s the case. Before finding this post I found an article from Microsoft, updated 3 days ago, on this specific option and it was specific to the new outlook. That option is new and unchecked by default. I’m not sure who in their right mind would ever think it’s a good idea to not be able to open emails in a separate window. One wouldn’t even be able to reply to an email while reading from a different one.

You should post the link to the actual suggestion you posted so others can find this and upvote it. I searched for your suggestion and could not find it.

I have no proof, but my guess is that the new Outlook is designed to function this way. It is not that the dev team missed it. They designed it that way. That is why they are requesting feedback. The one guy on the dev team got out-voted for keeping the feature. Now they need to know the public really does want this feature to add it back to the code.
