I like to open unread emails in a new window vs the email window. It sometimes works by double clicking but not very often. Is there a trick I'm missing?

Hey Ricky, my IT team pushed the new version, I had no choice and still confirming if I can go backwards. So MS should fix the problem. That's the best solution here.

Why is anyone still using this new version if it's messing with the way they work? I don't see a single feature that one can't live without in this new version. Old one works just fine and has all the necessary features. New one looks nice, but is broken in more ways than one, and it's clear that Microsoft has no intent to fix the issue. I'm also part of the group that hates the reading pane. I've hated it since the day Microsoft released it and turned it on as a default. It's the first thing I turn off on a new install. I won't use the reading pane just to be able to open an email in a separate window. Again, old version is great. When you revert to the old version, Microsoft becomes aware of this in their usage metrics. Please stop using the new version if it doesn't meet all your needs.

I've already returned to old outlook because of this one issue. it's fairly ridiculous that this has been removed or just doesn't work. it's a basic and needed option, reading pane will never be something I enable.

I agree, the loss of this functionality to be able to easily open an email in a different pane is wreaking havoc on my working effeciency. Why require the user to click another icon? I'm ready to go back to old Outlook if this problem isn't fixed immediately.

Indeed that works, thanks for the hint. I don't like using the reading pane as it takes up too much real estate in my view. However I'll use this workaround until Microsoft fixes this bug. Submitted a strongly worded suggestion as well.
