How to Open Emails in Separate Window in New Outlook

I like to open unread emails in a new window vs the email window. It sometimes works by double clicking but not very often. Is there a trick I'm missing?

    MavMar, I hope this is not the case. The new Outlook is unusable as-is. So much functionality has been stripped, it is a shell of the former version. You can't even select where to save files (beyond Downloads or OD). The help articles don't match the interface and there is zero support. This is some of Microsoft's messiest work with changes that make absolutely no sense.

    The only workaround it to return to the old version.

    I am getting a little worried that this is not going to be changed. MS has been silent for months. It makes me think they intend to put the new Outlook into production with this "feature". They will hear a lot of crying at first. They will ignore it until the crying stops as the faithful users find a new app to replace Outlook or conform.

    Note: I will gladly surrender my prophet card if this does not come to pass.

    So, what's the workaround? The only workarounds mentioned here reference options/icons that are not showing on my Outlook... Help!

    This thread was created on May 8. It is now August 14. Numerous people have reported the issue has not been fixed. I just tried the solution and again it fails to open an email in a new window, even with the setting "Open in New Window" selected. When will Microsoft address this issue with either "we are working on it" or "We have no plans to fix this"?
