I like to open unread emails in a new window vs the email window. It sometimes works by double clicking but not very often. Is there a trick I'm missing?

    Moderator note -
    Noam Bleicher
You replied to a thread that was 10 months old.
Your first post on 1st March 2024 was derogatory toward Microsoft and the Microsoft agent.
your COC violation was removed from your post on 8th March 2024 the same day that you demanded the agent give you contact details of their line manager.

The Agent will not have continued to read the thread for long after the original poster stopped engaging on the 15th May 2023.

Anyone giving somebody else's contact details in this public forum would be removed - even if the agent saw your demands they cannot and will not supply that information.

remember the information you are complaining about is nearly a year old and may well have changed.

Please read the Microsoft Community Code of Conduct

    Please do:

    • Be polite and respectful in your posts, and in your replies to other people.
    • Always address your comments to the person who asked the initial question, not the other posters.
    • Keep it clean. No profanity, obscenity, insulting or bigoted comments please. No name-calling.

    • Invading anyone's privacy by attempting to harvest, collect, store, or publish private or personally identifiable information, such as passwords, account information, credit card numbers, addresses, or other contact information without that person's knowledge and willing consent.

You can use the feedback hub (winkey+F) to send feedback directly to the developers I would suggest making feature requests politely,
You may not get a reply but all feedback sent using the feedback hub is read by the relevant team, the more users that ask for a feature or change, the more likely it will be given priority.

if you want up to date help with outlook, you could try starting your own thread read the tips on that page and take care not to violate the Code of Conduct any further.

While I have the same question, I would prefer to have the option at the set-up level to ask if you want your emails opened in a new window everytime. If no, then the other option of clicking on the email when you do want it in a new window would still be available.

Even with the super-fast double-click or the triple-click, this doesn't solve the bigger issue for me which is that I can't single-click an email. I tend to get a lot of emails that I can read through the one-line preview. I will often select them all and ctrl+enter to mark all as read. Can't do that with the new Outlook. Worthless to me.

I keep switching to the new outlook, and when I switch back I provide feedback when it asks. I'm sure that is directed straight to a person who immediately reads it and takes it very seriously.

I don't see the message surface option in the new Outlook. I need to open emails in a separate window. My messages are kept in conversation view and all double clicking does is reduce the message in the thread. I can open in a new window if I reply or forward, but not just to read a new email. There is no pop out icon available. I need to be able to do this to look at the email while reviewing the calendar to schedule complex meetings or add details to the calendar. Flipping back and forth is not an option.
