How to remove old Outlook after switching to New Outlook

I found a solution to it, specially for mailto links.

Go to Control Panel, Defaul Apps, Mail. Click on .em and change it to Outlook (new) and click on set as default. Do the same for MAILTO.

It works for me.

How Microsoft is handling this is a disgrace! Somehow they have [removed] with the normal setup procedure and it seems that Outlook 16 (classic Outlook) stays on the computer without officially being installed. With the new outlook it is not possible to open vcs files and they stay linked with the old outlook which cannot be removed as it is officially not installed.

Not even the service desk can help with the mess this program has caused. I only had to use the new outlook because the old one does not start up, but the new Outlook [removed] as I can't send files anymore by right clicking them, it is also extremely slow and does not open vcs files.

Normally new versions should have more features compared with the old one instead of less.

And finally the worst part: complete silence from the services desk on 5 pages of service request :-(

if you use intune to remove out classic you can update your XML to

<ExcludeAPP ID="Outlook" />

this will remove outlook classic from the devices being managed as they next check in

So there isn't an Old version. it is just the system holding onto your old account as an old account. Think of it like legacy mode. Outlook has a mode of old version not actually a stand alone program.

Thanks Nathan, that is helpful and at the same time explains at the same time why it is behaving so differently then parallel installations. I have solved my issue of some features being linked to the old mode of outlook (like sending files from explorer, opening vcs files) and some to the new outlook (like opening mail links) by creating a new windows profile where everything is still linked to the old outlook mode.

I won't use the new outlook mode as it does not support opening of vcs files and pst files, which I need to access archived mailboxes. I still really don't understand how Microsoft removed these features. I understand that you maybe don't want to create pst files anymore, but opening existing pst files should be possible. And vcs files are a standards way of sharing contact information and it is beyond me why this feature has been dropped.

I hope that the old outlook mode will be available as long as these essential features are not in the new version.
