"New" Outlook: Add Shared Mailbox to Favorites

What is strange is that clearly there are good talented hard working people there. Some of the functions/designs/thinking are great and worth respect but at the same time, in the same product its as if they completely ignore what the client could need and just go with something "cool" or "easy", "etc".

Some times, problems are taken care of extremely fast and in an open and clear way but some other times, they are just ignored or maybe shelved for half a decade for reason unknow.

What strike me as weird is that the (new) windows 365's apps are supposed to be the new wave of apps that the client HAD to use (such as Teams) but then there is Outlook or Entra where they advise you to also swap but the products aren't ready and lack clear necessaries functions and they leave the old ones up.

Yep agreed...it is meant to be better not worse. Yes there are some good features but for how I use it daily it's not as usable that's for sure. I've come to accept that Microsoft isn't good at designing a user-friendly application. On a side note, I saw that they have half fixed the "Accept but do not send a response" ongoing issue for many years but still defaulted to "Email Organiser". Most want to accept the meeting but not bombard the organiser with even more emails than they currently get...Such a joke!!!!

This worked for me. I have the shared mailbox in my favorites, and then if I scroll down underneath my regular mailbox, it has the shared mailbox and all the folders within. This will work for me! Thanks!

However, I just found out that the ability to add, remove or customize columns in the message list is not supported in New Outlook - considered for a future release. This is not helpful for me at all. Going back to Old Outlook.

Same here, it must depend on how the additional mailbox is added. Mine is under "Shared with me" which was added by IT and I can't add that email account to Favourites. Adding the email account using the email address and password should work.

If it's a shared mailbox in a business tenant, chances are it will have been shared by IT - that's certainly how we do it. It then appears, as you say, in the 'Shared with me' section. If an account appears in 'Shared with me' there is no option to add the account (or folders within the account, such as the inbox) to the favourites.

Adding shared accounts using an email address and password would be very bad practice as it would mean sharing credentials for accounts (that's a big no for us), and would mean that MFA would have to be disabled on the account. The account would therefore become a significant security risk. The accounts to which our shared mailboxes are attached are all disabled so that they cannot be logged into directly, and sharing is done by means of adding the required users to the mailbox permissions in the M365 console.

I am using the New Outlook Desktop app.

I hovered over the "Favorites" heading. The three dots appeared. I clicked on them and selected "Add Favorite". I then typed the email address and selected the correct Inbox from the choices. I now have my shared inbox in my favorites area.

That doesn't show the inbox of the shared account - I've just tried it, and it brings up all the sent mails from my own sent items folder which were originally sent to the shared mailbox (I often reply from my own account).

It therefore appears to function as some sort of search filter, including emails in the local account.
