Is this email from "Microsoft Outlook.com" legitimate?

On June 22 I received an email from "Microsoft Outlook.com", specifically: "Admin Desk • ******@live.ca" stating: "We are closing all old versions of our Mailbox as from June 23rd, Please follow the attached below to update .
Before upgrading your account, please ensure that your password is correct.
Failure to verify your account with the Microsoft Update Attached File."

Please tell me if this is legitimate?! Thank you.

    Completely fake.

    If you ever want to check on the status of your account go to https://account.microsoft.com.

    NEVER EVER click on a link in an email that you aren't 100% sure about.

    Hi there! This is Raech. I'm a fellow Outlook.com user and I'm here to help.

    That email is a phishing scam and not legitimate. Microsoft does not send emails to notify about closing email accounts. Accounts can only be closed manually by the owner, or if the account becomes inactive for at least two years.

    Please mark them as Spam or Phishing through the Junk button, never click on any links and delete those emails right away. More details can be found below.

    To be safe, I would actually suggest changing your password. Since you clicked on the attachment, please run a virus scan on your PC to check for any malwares. Other than that you should be good.

    Thank you very much. I clicked on the attachment, but it did not open. Then, I filed the email into "Junk". Is that sufficient to protect my account? Now I'm concerned because I opened the attachment!
