New Outlook won't open .pst files

No, PST files allow you to horde emails... PST's were inaccessible to everyone except the archive owner, which makes it impossible to retrieve, what is typically corporate information, by anyone else.

Email of business value should be recorded in your company's information repository, most likely your SharePoint site that is pertinent to the business activity to which the email references. This way, the enterprise, or at least those with access to the SP site can utilize it as an information asset.

If they are being used for reference, then I highly suggest that you start to use one note to organize your reference material. You can even drop the pertinent email into the note page.

That would be great if there were companies going after them for this, even though it might be a losing battle. What would hurt them most is a mass exodus. The issue in changing providers is finding one that is as comprehensive as them. I have loved Outlook for years, since it started, now I am trying to think of alternatives.

I have moved some of my pst's to the synced cloud pst until I can figure out how to preserve them. I am only dealing with home use, since before 2000 and there are too many to print to a pdf, so I can't imagine the harm it will do to a company.

I don't know if you tried... I thought wait a minute... I have dragged emails into explore folders where I could open them if I want or need to. Guess what... nope. I would have to have to look though every explore folder to see if there are some in there and pdf them, yikes! I am extremely organized and still I have a lot of explore files.

When reading your response, at the bottom of the Microsoft email, there was a message about Tech Scams. Talk about tech scams, how ironic. Cloud has benefited these money hungry monopolies more than they've benefitted their user base. Next will be pay as you go....it's already starting in some industries.

Same as many others, tried for ages to work out how to open my saved folders. Gave up and searched Google and found this as the first result! So astonished I nearly fell off my chair. What on earth was the Product Manager thinking to release the product as is? Product is absolutely useless, switched straight back to "old" Usable Outlook

Thank you for the additional information Diditj. I am passing this along to our IT Department so hopefully we can have a robust discussion on how best to approach the upcoming changes. Legally, we have to retain records for our projects. If they become unusable, how are we to defend ourselves or in turn prove malfeasance if we are unable to produce the paper trail? I have zero faith in Microsoft since they destroyed One Note 2010 a few years back, it was an amazing program, then they stripped what felt like 80% of the functionality out and shoved it down our throats. At some point very soon, our ability to bring legal action against these companies for the impact they have needs to be addressed. Cloud is convenient but it leads to forced implementation and users being the "entersoftwarevendorhere" R&D. Upgrading products should not ever remove user functionality!
