New Outlook won't open .pst files

The new version of Outlook for Windows (Microsoft Outlook Version 1.2023.425.600 - Production) no longer allows me to open my old .pst archive files.

All documentation refers to a File menu that this version does not have at all.

PST files have been a centre piece of Outlook archiving for decades! To eliminate them is like asking loyal Outlook user to throw years of past work in th ebin and only focus on the last 6 months. Ridiculous & short sighted. (This from a software Product Manager who knows some of the ins and out of this soret of thing)

I have email archives in PST files going back to 2003 that I still search regularly (monthly) and in the last decade daily that are in ~500GB of various PST files.

My laptop has room and I can handle the offline backups of locked PST files on my own..... why can't I access this essential part of Outlook for over 20 years????

(I get that others don't get that the files are locked whilst Outlook is open and may therefore be "disappointed" to lose their data is online backup don't "work"....but some of us rely heavily on historical cross references so PST's are essential.

Or let my Outlook Mailbox grow unlimited and charge my Exchange/O365 org accordingly.....???

The feature doesn't exist in New Outlook. You may share your feedback. Select Help and choose Feedback.

Hoarding emails is one thing that can be resolved in different ways, but if you have to conduct an email investigation using Microsoft's Compliance tool, you will get a PST file with the contents of the investigation. Once the old Outlook client is gone, there appears to be no way to open the PST file that MICROSOFT generated. THAT'S the biggest issue I have found with this apparently short-sided decision.
