New Outlook won't open .pst files

The new version of Outlook for Windows (Microsoft Outlook Version 1.2023.425.600 - Production) no longer allows me to open my old .pst archive files.

All documentation refers to a File menu that this version does not have at all.

I have to put my vast amounts of archive email in .pst as it you let the main folder get too big the whole thing corrupts.

You can also back up data easily and share it with others eg. when you leave a job and hand records to your successor

But I just got a pop up asking me to to move to new outlook and saying I would not be able to access .pst. That is the archive of my life and and my work for a decade

    What's going on?

Today (9/12/2024) I opened my Outlook.exe 2021, and it behaves like nothing happened at all. It lists and reads and writes local folders (.PST) files, and seems to have all the deprecated features it always had.

This is super-scary to me . . . That Microsoft can turn my daily use software on and off at will. Microsoft seems to be dedicated to removing useful tools lately.

It remains to be seen if this will last. I really don't enjoy this game.

Really? Seems I overread that point - obviously I want to continue to write into pst & archive emails. Then this is really not what we need...

    Frank,

This is limited progress as it is read only. Many of us are looking for full read/ write access as we want to use PST to archive recent emails as well going forwards.

I found it now on the Microsoft Roadmap, apparently planned for March 2025
