When sending emails from QuickBooks with Outlook, edits are discarded and the mail is sent as created by Quickbooks.

The Outlook bug in this year-old thread is back.

https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook_com/forum/all/cannot-edit-quickbooks-generated-outlook-emails/cc37fa11-b801-4df4-ac5a-0dfef52be63f

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Create invoice in QuickBooks, click "Email" button.
  2. A draft email is created in Outlook from your default invoice template with the invoice attached.
  3. Edit that email - add or remove text, and send.
  4. Look in Sent Items. The sent email DOES NOT HAVE YOUR EDITS.

This is subtle, and super annoying - how often do you think to check if your e-mail got sent the way you wrote it? I only noticed because I went back to copy some text that I had written for a new e-mail and saw that it was missing from the email as sent.

I'm glad it helped! I'm still working with them too - lets see if there's ultimately a real solution for this.

The only fix that worked for me was to turn off Cached mode in Outlook:
File, Account Settings, Account Name and Sync Settings.
Uncheck the box that says: Use Cached Exchange Mode.

Hope this saves someone the 3 days I lost trying to resolve this issue.

@drowningfish This may work, but at a significant cost in performance. The most effective workaround I've found is just a couple of clicks, change mail format to RTF and back to HTML - this "sticks" the changes. It does have to be done for every QB email, but turning off cached exchange mode is going to make Outlook, and especially searches, quite a bit slower.

Marcia per thread, there are workarounds and a temporary fix.

    Workarounds:

    1. use buttons on Format Text ribbon to change mail format from HTML to Rich Text (sometimes called RTF) and back to HTML. This needs to be done for every email you edit before sending. It's a couple of clicks and it's quick but you need to remember to do it each time.

    -or-

    1. click save to save the email as a draft and close it. Once you open it again, changes should stick. You must close the email - saving as a draft is not enough. If you're doing a bunch of emails you can save them all as drafts, and then go and edit them one by one if needed.

    The temporary fix:

Call Microsoft and open a ticket, reference my ticket number 33417431, and ask for the registry key that disables the outlook change that is causing the problem. It's an obfuscated key, and I'm not allowed to put it here. But you can get it from Microsoft support. This key needs to be applied to every machine that has the problem. It will fix the problem for now, but no guarantees that it will continue to work.
