Outlook 365 app error 1001 on RDS environment ( FSLogix)

Hello,

We encounter an issue with M365 apps (Outlook, Work, Excel) on a specific environment ( Remote Desktop Service)

Sometime, when an user open his application (Outlook for instance) on a RDS, an authentification pop and ask for credentials. If the user enter his credentials, he encounter a 1001 error.

We already try some step to resolve the issue that help in some case but not all the case, and not defintely for a same user ( Issue occur again) :

  • Clear folder C:\Users*yourusername*\AppData\Local\Microsoft\OneAuth and  C:\Users*yourusername*\AppData\Local\Microsoft\IdentityCache
  • Move the user from 1 TSE server to an other TSE)e
  • Clear FSlogix User profil ( The specific one link to FSLogix Office 365 Container technology )

The main issue is that the error can occur again few day laterfor the same user.

In the log I find the reference to the 1001 error but the log is a bit complex to understand or analyse.

  • Microsoft FSLogix version : 2.9.7654.46150
  • Office version : version 2305 build 16501.20228
  • OS version : Windows Server 2019 Standard 1809 build 17763.4499

    Same problem here, even with relatively new versions.

    RDS with

    • Microsoft FSLogix version : 2.9.8228.50276
    • Office version : version 2308 build 16731.20170
    • OS version : Windows Server 2019 Standard 1809 build 17763.4851

    Same here, we are having this issue for some months now. Tried almost everything, repairing and reinstalling office, installing a new server, changing settings for the upd included directories, checking firewall settings, disabling virusscanner, installing/deinstalling edge, logging on edge, tinkering with caching, changing the ADAL related registry keys, changing rights to shared mailboxes, converting shared mailboxes to user mailboxes.

    We are using outlook as remote-app on RDS server 2019 std, using UPD files, with office 365 MSO 2308.
    Other identical server 2016 std RDS servers with office 2016 do not have this problem.

    It seems to slowly get worse. It started with "cannot open folders", or people needing to re-enter their passwords when starting outlook.
    Now we are getting more and more of the 1001 error and when you then open word you get the message "there are errors with your account"

    In the beginning the "quick" fix was :

    1. Log out of office 365 accounts in word
    2. del C:\Users%username%\AppData\Local\microsoft\office\*.* /s /q
    3. del C:\Users%username%\AppData\Roaming\microsoft\office\*.* /s /q
    4. reg delete HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office /f
    5. Logoff / login again
    6. Start outlook and re-create profile.

    But that almost stopped working. now even re-creating the complete windows profile does not always work.
    The Problem pops up seemingly random, some users get it almost every day, others only once or not at all.

    Would very much like to hear if someone is making progress with MS about *** Email address is removed for privacy ***

    You have recreated the machine with Windows 2016 server "because authentication process is different," can you elaborate on that ? How is it different ?

    we use regular user profile disks and we also encounter this problem.

    And we arent the only ones

    It is different because it seems that windows server 2019/2022 includes Web Authentication Manager or Web Account Manager, this component is not included on windows server 2016 or earlier.
