After update to 16.73 Outlook for Mac, Yahoo mail keeps re-syncing and reloading. Changes made in Outlook AND Yahoo are not syncing.

Prior to this update, I had no issue with Outlook for Mac and Yahoo. I just updated to 16.73 (23051401). After updating, I had many problems with the Yahoo mail from within Outlook. It worked for the first 15 minutes, then got login errors and IMAP errors. I deleted the Yahoo account from Outlook and then quit. I then went back to Yahoo and got a new app password. I restarted Outlook and added the new app password obtained from Yahoo. It worked for the first 15 minutes then started to suddenly empty out all emails in all folders. Then the emails would eventually re-sync and reload from Yahoo. This now happens constantly. I tried the same uninstall reinstall process again, and nothing changed. Now also changes I make within Yahoo via my browser are not reflected in Outlook and changes made to Yahoo mail within Outlook are not saved when the emails clear, res-sync and reload, and they are not reflected in Yahoo online either. It's stuck in a loop. New emails DO ARRIVE and get added to the loop. Also there is a constant attempt to recreate the basic Yahoo folders: Drafts, Archive, Junk, Bulk. I get error messages saying can't be installed because they already exist - which they do! Why is it trying to reinstall them as if it is a new connection with Yahoo?

My setup is the following using OUTLOOK for MAC - BUT NOT NEW OUTLOOK. New Outlook does not support all the folders I have created over the years for organization and am unwilling to lose. I have a 16 inch MBPro M1 Max chip. Running Monterey 12.6.5.

AS a side note, I have for the past year or more had problems where white-listing emails does not work. Outlook is putting emails of people I email with regularly into SPAM. I whitelisted many of them, but Outlook is ignoring the classification and still putting those emails into SPAM.

    I have not experienced that yet but can confirm that New Outlook also has serious deficiencies which I regularly report when I switch between New Outlook and Legacy - a transion I don't seem to have problems with, thank goodness. I still have the same issues using the beta release 16.76 (23070301) I don't know what they are fixing in all the releases they are making but it's certainly not the Yaoo IMAP problem or any of all the problems I experience in New Outlook. Microsoft is killing this product and making me think about getting out of MS 365. Currennty I am using the Yahoo browser app to get by as the Apple mail app does not have the filing to folders capabilities of Outlook or even the Yahoo browser.

    Diane,

    I was able to dissuade NEW OUTLOOK from opening by not choosing TRY NOW until today. Opened Outlook to find NEW OUTLOOK INSTALLED. NO Gmail account iboxes, no calendar events, no contacts. . . . nothing.

    I am just a consumer Diane, I don't know what it means to open Terminal . . .

    Microsoft’s solution to the ghosting and reappearing emails was to move us to their half-baked, work in progress New Outlook.

    We already know rules won’t work with Yahoo accounts nor can you drag, drop, or move emails from a Yahoo account.  They only work (sometimes) within the Exchange account.

    Discovered a new missing feature today in New Outlook. There is no Export option to export email folders to an .olm file or other external file. Microsoft says use Apples’ time machine for backup purposes. But what if I want to put my exported files on another machine? Maybe I want to import them into a different email client? Maybe M$ doesn’t like the later idea.  And I am supposed to use Time Machine for my family jewels? That’s like the fox telling the hens they will be safe in Apples’ hen house.

    I am so tired of everything Microsoft.  Anyone know how to export all your New Outlook for the Mac email folders including those in On My Computer??  Thanks.

    The simplest solution is to set your Yahoo account up as an IMAP account. That means you keep all your emails on the Yahoo server and you can access them either directly on a browser like Safari or any other browswer you prefer or you can view and work with them on an email client like Outlook, Apple mail or any other email app of your choice - and I believe there are many. Alternatively if you want to keep actual email files on your hard disk you can drag and drop them directly out of Oulook onto a folder on your Mac's hard drive. This will create a file with an .eml extension that can be opened by many email clients that are available. But then you have no sync between these files and an email client so it is not a great solution. I have found Mac's Time Machine very reliable albeit it a bit clunky to work with, over may years of backup to a hard drive. I don't use Apples iCloud for this as I find it quite costly and as I have a terabyte of free storage with my 365 subscription it does not make sense to also invest in an iCloud facility.

    I appreciate your comment, but maybe I'm reading your post wrong. This thread is based on an issue that Mac users are having with office for Mac Outlook. We are having issues based on the changes that have been done with either MS and or Yahoo. No one seems to know who is at fault. If you'rea mac user that has yahoo imap in legacy Outlook, the inbox vanishes and slowly propgates again. This action happens consistently.

    Your suggestion doesn't seem to apply to our issue.
