After update to 16.73 Outlook for Mac, Yahoo mail keeps re-syncing and reloading. Changes made in Outlook AND Yahoo are not syncing.

Prior to this update, I had no issue with Outlook for Mac and Yahoo. I just updated to 16.73 (23051401). After updating, I had many problems with the Yahoo mail from within Outlook. It worked for the first 15 minutes, then got login errors and IMAP errors. I deleted the Yahoo account from Outlook and then quit. I then went back to Yahoo and got a new app password. I restarted Outlook and added the new app password obtained from Yahoo. It worked for the first 15 minutes then started to suddenly empty out all emails in all folders. Then the emails would eventually re-sync and reload from Yahoo. This now happens constantly. I tried the same uninstall reinstall process again, and nothing changed. Now also changes I make within Yahoo via my browser are not reflected in Outlook and changes made to Yahoo mail within Outlook are not saved when the emails clear, res-sync and reload, and they are not reflected in Yahoo online either. It's stuck in a loop. New emails DO ARRIVE and get added to the loop. Also there is a constant attempt to recreate the basic Yahoo folders: Drafts, Archive, Junk, Bulk. I get error messages saying can't be installed because they already exist - which they do! Why is it trying to reinstall them as if it is a new connection with Yahoo?

My setup is the following using OUTLOOK for MAC - BUT NOT NEW OUTLOOK. New Outlook does not support all the folders I have created over the years for organization and am unwilling to lose. I have a 16 inch MBPro M1 Max chip. Running Monterey 12.6.5.

AS a side note, I have for the past year or more had problems where white-listing emails does not work. Outlook is putting emails of people I email with regularly into SPAM. I whitelisted many of them, but Outlook is ignoring the classification and still putting those emails into SPAM.

    It looks from the other threads linked above that some people are switching to Apple mail, while others are switching to the "new" Outlook. I don't have anything important in my "On my computer" Outlook folders, so I guess I could switch to "new" Outlook, but I don't really want to. Also don't really want to try to adapt to Apple mail. So ... my current plan is to sit tight with old Outlook in "Work Offline" mode after quick syncs with my Yahoo account, and wait to see if this problem gets fixed.

    For those of you who've tried new Outlook as well as Apple mail ... any preference?

    First - Patrick, thanks for the links you found. I also suspect M$ is trying to push everyone from legacy Outlook.

    No way this old fellow is giving up his local PST files which contain many years of family, friends (many now passed), health, financial history, technical notes, etc., etc. Over my dead body - and they won't have to wait long!

    Years ago when M$ dropped support for Outlook Express it seemed logical to migrate everything to Outlook. So if M$ will no longer support local PST files I'm done with M$ and Office Apps of any flavor. I'll find away to get my PST files migrated from Apple - they only export to an "OLM" file. I will put them on my old Windows 10 system and access them with a standalone copy of Outlook 2016.

    BTW, Apple mail, as well as most other email clients, don't support local email files. What a mess!

    I don't know if anyone shared the link to the Microsoft article that was released a few days ago... this bug only affects legacy Outlook apparently and the solution workaround is to switch to the new Outlook.

    I tried the switch a few weeks ago. Did not solve the sync issue which still occurs. My solution is to close my bellsouth.net ( Yahoo) accounts and migration to gmail. I may change to the new Outlook once the transition is complete, presently about 85% there. Hoping Google/Gmail will hold up longer. Had bellsouth.net for almost 20 years. They got bought out by AT&T, at first bellsouth mail server did well until AT&T made changes, login issues, web mail issues, etc. Then AT&T (I think) bought Yahoo, that was a mess with Yahoo mail server and bellsouth.net mail server. It has always been a nightmare trying to get to my emails. via web or logging in under Yahoo or using Outlook. This was the last draw, possibly a good thing. Kept putting all the work off as everything I did was bellsouth.net, important stuff moved and misc stuff left over. Hope next time changes are made they take into consideration the thousands of people they affect, they obviously didn't do it this time.

    I am with you Roger, I have had my sbcglobal email since 2001. I knew this day was coming since there have been intermittent times over the decades when it simply did not work (login issues, web mail issues, etc...). Regardless, this was the last time I want to deal with this issue since, like everyone, many of these old emails/folders contain critical information. I assume I will spend the next months slowly going email by email, getting rid of what I can and, I guess, creating PDFs of things I cannot. I suppose I will store the PDFs on my hard drive or email them to my Gmail account and store them with tags there. I already spent most of the last week transitioning all my online accounts to Gmail. Stupid, from a customer service perspective, that the "new outlook" didn't support all of the critical stored information from prior versions. But, again, I do not want to see these issues in the future, so going with Gmail to hopefully get me through the next 20 years or so! Best of luck to everyone.
