After update to 16.73 Outlook for Mac, Yahoo mail keeps re-syncing and reloading. Changes made in Outlook AND Yahoo are not syncing.

Prior to this update, I had no issue with Outlook for Mac and Yahoo. I just updated to 16.73 (23051401). After updating, I had many problems with the Yahoo mail from within Outlook. It worked for the first 15 minutes, then got login errors and IMAP errors. I deleted the Yahoo account from Outlook and then quit. I then went back to Yahoo and got a new app password. I restarted Outlook and added the new app password obtained from Yahoo. It worked for the first 15 minutes then started to suddenly empty out all emails in all folders. Then the emails would eventually re-sync and reload from Yahoo. This now happens constantly. I tried the same uninstall reinstall process again, and nothing changed. Now also changes I make within Yahoo via my browser are not reflected in Outlook and changes made to Yahoo mail within Outlook are not saved when the emails clear, res-sync and reload, and they are not reflected in Yahoo online either. It's stuck in a loop. New emails DO ARRIVE and get added to the loop. Also there is a constant attempt to recreate the basic Yahoo folders: Drafts, Archive, Junk, Bulk. I get error messages saying can't be installed because they already exist - which they do! Why is it trying to reinstall them as if it is a new connection with Yahoo?

My setup is the following using OUTLOOK for MAC - BUT NOT NEW OUTLOOK. New Outlook does not support all the folders I have created over the years for organization and am unwilling to lose. I have a 16 inch MBPro M1 Max chip. Running Monterey 12.6.5.

AS a side note, I have for the past year or more had problems where white-listing emails does not work. Outlook is putting emails of people I email with regularly into SPAM. I whitelisted many of them, but Outlook is ignoring the classification and still putting those emails into SPAM.

    RetiredGeek,

In the words of Obi Wan, "This is not the fix you're looking for."

Sadly, seems like others who updated to the 16.73.1 upgrade are still having issues, so I don't believe it has been addressed.

The official fixes from the Release Notes are:

    • Mail: Fixed an issue where the undo button in toast is not clickable.
    • Search: Fixed a highlighting issue for the first search suggestion.
    • Calendar: Fixed an issue where calendars become unchecked in some cases after restarting the app.

Thanks for the warning about using Mail as an alternative! I've mostly been using my phone for now because things seem to be stable there.

Two days ago I submitted this issue to the Outlook forum Slipstick.com run by MVP Diane Poremsky. She emailed me today and asked if I installed the latest update (I did - no help). We are not alone with this issue - see her response below.

Outlook for the MAC with Yahoo accounts now very broken Do you have an update available for outlook? If so, install it and see if it helps. Other are reporting the same issue (more than just the thread you found)... but I don't know yet if it is a problem with yahoo or outlook. I'm waiting to hear back from the product team.

Thanks for this info, RetiredGeek. Please post any helpful updates from that forum if they appear.

Just another same-old, same-old update: I didn't get to my laptop today until about a half hour ago. Opened my sbcglobal (yahoo) email from my browser first, got rid of some unnecessary stuff in my inbox, emptied my spam folder, held my breath, and opened Outlook.

The yahoo inbox mail downloaded into my Outlook inbox and before I could even flip the switch back to Work Offline, BAM! my Outlook inbox emails had been disappeared. I haven't looked at any of my other folders yet to see if I lost anything there.

What a pain in the posterior this is, as the problem drags on and on. And on.

Edited to add: Just went back to check my other Outlook folders ... two of them were emptied along with my inbox emails, in a freaking instant. Unreal.

Thanks for sharing the slipstick link. Will keep monitoring it and the other forums I've seen about the issue. Will let you know if I hear anything.
