After update to 16.73 Outlook for Mac, Yahoo mail keeps re-syncing and reloading. Changes made in Outlook AND Yahoo are not syncing.

Prior to this update, I had no issue with Outlook for Mac and Yahoo. I just updated to 16.73 (23051401). After updating, I had many problems with the Yahoo mail from within Outlook. It worked for the first 15 minutes, then got login errors and IMAP errors. I deleted the Yahoo account from Outlook and then quit. I then went back to Yahoo and got a new app password. I restarted Outlook and added the new app password obtained from Yahoo. It worked for the first 15 minutes then started to suddenly empty out all emails in all folders. Then the emails would eventually re-sync and reload from Yahoo. This now happens constantly. I tried the same uninstall reinstall process again, and nothing changed. Now also changes I make within Yahoo via my browser are not reflected in Outlook and changes made to Yahoo mail within Outlook are not saved when the emails clear, res-sync and reload, and they are not reflected in Yahoo online either. It's stuck in a loop. New emails DO ARRIVE and get added to the loop. Also there is a constant attempt to recreate the basic Yahoo folders: Drafts, Archive, Junk, Bulk. I get error messages saying can't be installed because they already exist - which they do! Why is it trying to reinstall them as if it is a new connection with Yahoo?

My setup is the following using OUTLOOK for MAC - BUT NOT NEW OUTLOOK. New Outlook does not support all the folders I have created over the years for organization and am unwilling to lose. I have a 16 inch MBPro M1 Max chip. Running Monterey 12.6.5.

AS a side note, I have for the past year or more had problems where white-listing emails does not work. Outlook is putting emails of people I email with regularly into SPAM. I whitelisted many of them, but Outlook is ignoring the classification and still putting those emails into SPAM.

I thought it was just me. I am having the EXACT same issue with yahoo / outlook. Did you find an answer?

@Kari - haven't found an answer, and I've been looking, believe me! I just keep reloading my DuckDuckGo search for "outlook for mac 16.73 folders suddenly empty" to see if anything new pops up in the results. Meanwhile, my Outlook continues to "Work Offline" since all my folders re-synced and my messages returned to them. I live in fear of going online for an Inbox sync, only to have all the messages in my other folders (thousands of them) disappear again, requiring folder-by-folder re-syncing. This is unacceptable, to put it mildly.

Having identical issue to above. I'm on a new Macbook Pro with Outlook 365 for Mac v. 16.73, and the problem started with the latest Outlook version. My Outlook folders (not the folders themselves, but the contents) keep emptying in random fashion during syncs with my sbcglobal.net (Yahoo) email account. Also having the duplication problem as described above. I'm currently using "Working Offline" in Outlook most of the time, once I re-sync all my Outlook folders to bring them back up to date. I've done this over and over. The re-sync may or may not happen, I guess depending on the mood of the server at any given time.

    Extremely frustrating and time consuming.

Edited to add: I'm running Ventura 13.4 on my Macbook. Also, I was having this problem on my older 2018 Macbook Pro before migrating all my data to the new 2023 Macbook two days ago.

Just to let you know, I am having the EXACT SAME issues as you, David, with the exact same Outlook behaviors, on my 2017 3.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5 iMac, also after the 16.73 (23051401) update using the Legacy version of Outlook, only with AOL mail instead of Yahoo. I have re-entered the correct new app password generated from AOL, but all to no avail. I thought at first it was due to SpamSieve, but turning it off and then uninstalling both the app and the required Outlook Script files, reinstalling the same, etc., all is to no avail. I have had this account for over thirty years and am unwilling to part with it without a fight, but I also don't feel like migrating to Apple Mail right now either. Another example of Microsoft genius, sigh. With luck, someone is watching this forum and has a good workaround until the next update! Hang in there, everyone...
