After update to 16.73 Outlook for Mac, Yahoo mail keeps re-syncing and reloading. Changes made in Outlook AND Yahoo are not syncing.

Prior to this update, I had no issue with Outlook for Mac and Yahoo. I just updated to 16.73 (23051401). After updating, I had many problems with the Yahoo mail from within Outlook. It worked for the first 15 minutes, then got login errors and IMAP errors. I deleted the Yahoo account from Outlook and then quit. I then went back to Yahoo and got a new app password. I restarted Outlook and added the new app password obtained from Yahoo. It worked for the first 15 minutes then started to suddenly empty out all emails in all folders. Then the emails would eventually re-sync and reload from Yahoo. This now happens constantly. I tried the same uninstall reinstall process again, and nothing changed. Now also changes I make within Yahoo via my browser are not reflected in Outlook and changes made to Yahoo mail within Outlook are not saved when the emails clear, res-sync and reload, and they are not reflected in Yahoo online either. It's stuck in a loop. New emails DO ARRIVE and get added to the loop. Also there is a constant attempt to recreate the basic Yahoo folders: Drafts, Archive, Junk, Bulk. I get error messages saying can't be installed because they already exist - which they do! Why is it trying to reinstall them as if it is a new connection with Yahoo?

My setup is the following using OUTLOOK for MAC - BUT NOT NEW OUTLOOK. New Outlook does not support all the folders I have created over the years for organization and am unwilling to lose. I have a 16 inch MBPro M1 Max chip. Running Monterey 12.6.5.

AS a side note, I have for the past year or more had problems where white-listing emails does not work. Outlook is putting emails of people I email with regularly into SPAM. I whitelisted many of them, but Outlook is ignoring the classification and still putting those emails into SPAM.

I received an email yesterday from you through the Microsoft Community. It was a reply from Mr. Nadella stating that Microsoft knew as of May 2023 that Yahoo and AOL email addresses would no longer work with with Outlook Legacy or the New Outlook for those using MS 365 for Mac. I flagged this email and with all the syncing, disappearing and duplicating emails, it is gone. How convenient.

Just want to confirm with you that I wasn't just seeing things. Please resend Nadella's response. I am quietly outraged that after all this time. . . . Finally someone comes clean. Given that Outlook for many of us devoted MS users is a large component of MS365. . . . We should receive compensation for the money spent between May and now for a subscription product sold to us under "knowingly" false pretenses.

@rocleaner, et all - The problems we all are facing seem unique to onlyOutlook on the Mac. I am running “Classic” Outlook on my Windows 10 system (not called Legacy in Windows world) with absolutely no problem with Yahoo/AOL folders ghosting and I can run rules, move mail folders between accounts and use all the other customizing functions. Anything I do in Outlook on my Windows machine synchs correctly with my Mac. I have read that Classic Outlook for Windows will be around for a long time.

Clearly, Legacy Outlook on the Mac has one foot in the grave and M$ is about to bury it. M$ just hasn’t posted the obit yet. Plus, there is no love lost between Apple & M$ and I suspect the number of Apple Outlook users pales compared to Windows users. Not worth it to M$?

So Microsoft’s solution for us Mac users is migrate to their crippled and work in progress New Outlook while we take your $$ for MS365.

@rocleaner - thanks for the detailed update from M$ and your response. As for my complaint to Mr. Nadella, MS engineering level 3 called me 3 times last week just to tell me they are still investigating and have no further updates. Not reassuring.

Yes, this happened with me multiple times. Thats why I asked them to just come out and kill it or fix it in a short time. I am convinced the fix is not complicated. All other email clients sync with Yahoo. At MS it's all about internal corporate politics. There is obviously a faction that want to just move forward with New Outlook and then there is another - probably an older faction that want to hold onto it. And the fight will be about resources to maintain both versions. I worked for a big multi national company and I have witnessed such stupidity up close and personal.

Janice, Mac mail will only import mbox formatted files. You have to convert your .olm file to mbox format. There a free converters on the internet - just google olm to mbox. Makes a backup of your olm file first (trust no one). I have never done this so I'm not sure how Mac mail will handle/display your calendar entries.
