Change default location for downloading attachments

Based on your description, you want to know how to set Outlook to ask you every time where to save the email attachments when you are downloading instead of automatically putting them in the Downloads folder.

As you chose Outlook for Windows for the product category, I suppose that you are asking about the feature on Outlook desktop app for Windows, and I did some test:

In the Email, right click the attachment or just click the down arrow, choose Save As. Then in the window popped up, you can browse the folder in which you want to save the attachment. You can see in the screenshot below, I chose Desktop folder to save it.

If only it were that easy... I don't get all those options, this is the menu that shows up:

If I click on Download, it automatically saves it in the Downloads folder.

Thanks for your reply! And please forgive my delayed reply bacause of my weekend-off. Since you chose Outlook for Windwos category when posting, so I provied the information on Outlook desktop in my first reply, sorry for my misunderstanding, and now I get that you are using Outlook Web client.

I did some test with my account on Outlook Web, and found the default download location of Outlook Web is set on the browser. I use Microsoft Edge as example:

1. Open Settings option of the browser, and click Downloads option, make sure Ask me what to do with each download is turned on. In this page, you can also change the default download folder for the files.

2. Go back to your inbox, and click Download. You will see the options of Open and Save as pop up, then you can choose Save as to browse a folder to save the file.

Hello. I am not using a browser, I am using the desktop app available on my Windows computer, and none of the options let me choose the download folder.

Dear Diana,

Since your Outlook desktop seems different with the attachments options with that of mine, will you please share me the detailed version information so that I can check the issue further? Please follow the steps in What version of Outlook do I have? - Microsoft Support to check the information. At the same time, will you please let me know what type of account are you using in your Outlook? Are you using Microsoft365 account or personal account (which is ended with outlook.com or hotmail.com) or some other 3rd party pop/imap account?
