I can't believe I have to ask something so dumb but how to I make Outlook ask me every time where to save the email attachments that I am downloading instead of automatically putting them in the Downloads folder?

Outlook | Windows | Classic Outlook for Windows | For home

This no longer works after Outlook was changed a few months ago. Everything gets automatically saved to the Downloads folder. For a brief period of time in February this looked to have been fixed and you could save to a folder of your choosing but a week or so ago it reverted to the Downloads Folder only. VERY frustrating!! Why has all the previous functionality in Outlook been removed!

I switched over to the new Outlook in the time that save as was working. However, since I work with a lot of documents, I'm going to have to move back to the old Outlook, which was giving me issues. I love the search function in the "Move to" option, and I like the print option being more accessible in the ribbon. I think the ten seconds delay when sending is great. But the time wasted to move things from the Download folder unfortunately overrides all of the other benefits for me. I will keep monitoring this forum and move back to New Outlook when this gets fixed. If anyone from Microsoft is reading this, please fix the downloading and also add the option for a popup spell check when you send, like the old Outlook.

For a while (and still in the version I have, the menu choice Download has worked as a Save As...
(You have Microsoft Outlook Version 1.2024.214.400 (Production). Client Version is 20240209002.15 .)

From the messages above, it seems that in the newest version, the Download is back to just automatically placing it in the Downloads folder.

Anyone from Microsoft around at all? Why make such a mess of this? Why not have one Download choice, that saves attachment to (an easily configurable) Downloads folder, and another Save As... which lets you select where to place the file(-s). Sigh...
