I can't believe I have to ask something so dumb but how to I make Outlook ask me every time where to save the email attachments that I am downloading instead of automatically putting them in the Downloads folder?

Windows 11 has two different Outlook applications. You might be using the "Outlook (new)" app, which is a dumbed down/simplified version of Outlook. The real, or actual Outlook can be found in your apps list under Outlook".
I am dumbfounded at the reduction in user adaptability in Microsoft Outlook in particular. It's like someone is screwing with us to keep us complaining on the forums. Every 6 months, I look for something i used to be able to do, and you can't do it anymore.
This issue is frustrating to be honest. But there is a workaround that is working for me currently. While I have the outlook web version open in Google Chrome, I also have the chrome setting for always ask before download turned ON, now, every time I download a file or batch of files in outlook web, I'm prompted with a window asking for download location. Hope this helps!
This is absolutely insane. 9 pages- NINE- for me to find out Outlook has less functionality than it did 10 years ago. Why in the world does it not give me the option TO ALWAYS choose where the download goes???? Who is making these bonkers decisions????
I have use the browser version for years, enjoyed it, and just recently Feb-March 2024 I'm getting error message "too many login attempts" so I switched to the app version - it works, but has the download options issue discussed here. I have found the only thing I can do is download my attachments, then I have to go to the download folder, rename them as needed then move them to the folder I want them in. Not efficient or helpful for the app. to be designed this way.
