When clicking a PDF attached to a message on the NEW outlook 2023 ( Microsoft Outlook Version 1.2023.427.500 (Production) Client Version is 20230421002.12) ,There is a Preview screen that opens to the left of the message with the PDF.
If I would like, for instance, to sign or add text to the PDF document I have received , there is no way I can open it in Adobe Acrobat unless I download, save to my PC (also very complicated...see my previous question in this forum) and then double click to open.
Can someone direct me please to a better way?

It might help get this change if we provide a user flow. Here is a scenario:
The Accounts Payable team triages a stream of incoming PDF invoices, sent by vendors into a shared mailbox. AP needs to do more than just read the PDF's. Triage involves tagging the PDF's, and then filing them appropriately.
For example, our AP triage involves 'stamping' invoices with: a) the purchaser/approver; b) an internal cost code c) the related project, if any, and d) any related Purchase Order number. Then, the file is saved to whatever online or on-premises electronic filing cabinet comes next.
If Outlook could open attachments in the computer's default PDF handler, the process is simply:
Open. Edit. Save As.
Otherwise, there are several extra steps at the beginning:
Download. Navigate to Downloads. Open, Edit, Save As.
Or:
Preview. Download. Navigate to Downloads. Open, Edit Save As.
Or:
Preview. 'Save to OneDrive'. Navigate to this year's OneDrive Attachments folder. Open, Edit Save As.
Hence the frustration expressed in this discussion.

This shouldn't even be a discussion we should be able to decide what opens PDFs and that's it. @Microsoft you would not like it if Edge was the default browser but every link is being opened in Chrome regardless would you? Well that is what you are doing here, there is no excuse as your previous Outlook iteration worked just fine. You are doing this to prevent the most premium of PDF software, Adobe, from working. You're better than that, fix it.

is this still under development almost a year later?
Putting in my vote to bring back opening pdf files in the computer's default pdf program. It is not reasonable to have Outlook not able to do this.
