Dear All,
Outlook offered to switch my application to the new Outlook version (there is a switch item below the window close button).
It looks like the in-browser version and works better than the former, but it has a missing option in the attachments drop-down menu, called 'save as'.
We get a lot of documents in our emails, which should be saved in different projects' locations on a local hard drive. The in-browser version and the former desktop app have this option but this new app does not.
How can I add this function back again?

I understand your concern and you are absolutely right when you receive an email with attachments in Outlook classic, it will allow you to save the attachments to the desired local folder or desktop. However, in the new outlook, it doesn't give you an option where to save the attachment at this time. Please note that this feature it is being developed by the team at the request of many users and will begin rolling out in this week. If you rely heavily on this feature, as you mentioned, you may consider Toggling out of the new Outlook for Windows preview - Microsoft Support for now and observe if this feature rolls out to your tenant until the end of this March. yes ... this is awful ... bring back save attachments!
Here we are TEN MONTHS LATER and still no Save As. That just might force me back to Classic. I am barely tolerating several other shortcomings, I mean, "improvements" in this version but that one's going to be REALLY annoying if they don't fix it very soon.
But wait, it gets better! Can't drag and drop the attachment icon out of Outlook to the desired destination either. Who the heck approved that?
UPDATE: If the attachment is a file type you can preview in Outlook, open the file preview. After a moment you can try the keyboard shortcut CTRL-S to bring up a Save As dialog. That's fine as long as A. it's a file type you can preview; B. Outlook doesn't have a seizure trying to preview it; and C. there isn't a reason NOT to preview the file even if you could (security, privacy, large file, etc.). So we still need the original drop-down from the file icon to include SAVE AS.
March 31, 2024, looks like this thread has been open for ONE YEAR now and no help from MS.
Recently began using Windows 11 - began a new job and decided to just take the offered PC laptop rather than force myself with my unsupported MacBook on the company.
What a MESS Windows and the PC software are, compared to how smoothly everything runs on Mac OS.
Oh, well, c'est la vie, I guess. Add my desperate plea for a Save As... function on attachments.
