Outlook asks to save when closing appointments without any change

First:

Hilarious: When I hit Cancel on a Reply to which I have added nothing to, the site asks me if I'm sure I want to abandon my changes.

Second:

Edit mode + no changes = No prompt to save changes

If going in to edit mode auto-updates some attributes of the meeting (weather, etc), then I need an option to disable any/all of those. The most important thing to me is not constantly clicking Discard Changes. I'm willing to sacrifice any/all auto-update "helpers". Hint: This is how annoying it is. Will someone with the power to make change please listen?

I was able to avoid this entire hassle by right clicking on the meeting in my calendar and selecting "join meeting". This might be different for you depending on what you are using for your meetings. Nevertheless, it allows you to join the meeting without opening the meeting.

Then, for other cases like when I just want to open a meeting to look at it. I simply close the meeting after I am done looking at it and then the problem does not come up later when I'm closing up windows for the day.

When you click on a link (e.g. to open a Zoom or Webex link) you have clicked into the body of the meeting causing the application goes into Edit mode. Once it's been in edit mode, it cannot be closed until you save or discard changes.

... or a Teams Meeting link. This behavior is what people are telling you is a bug. No user expects that they are editing a meeting they are invited to when clicking a link to join the Teams meeting in it - it makes no sense to anyone.

Thank you Mikkel for clarifying to Microsoft exactly what the issue is. Clicking on a link to join a meeting should not be considered an edit! I have lost many a half written email through jaded dismissing of this "feature" while closing outlook. The amount of wasted hours this bug has caused to the total Outlook community over the years they have refused to address it would make for a sobering statistic on the failure of support teams to prioritize correction of impactful bugs. Shame on the team that continue to ignore this thread and acknowledge the issue.

This problem occurs in all of the office applications, it creates confusion as to the state of the document. If Microsoft is going to recommend saving the file, publish the document "change" that is prompting the save request (in the save message). I have had this message come up in documents that are opened "read only". I am paid to produce documents not chase problems. If I change a document show enumerate what changed so a decision can be made. Do not make me guess why I should or should not save a document.
