How to change download destination in "New Outlook" (May 2023)

Agree. The new Outlook has some awesome features like "send later" and "snooze" -- I switched over just for those two features, as I had previously used Boomerang for this but it costs $$. But, without the option to save attachments to specific locations on my computer, it's a nonstarter. I receive a few dozen attachments a day that I need to save in different project files, and to just have them all go to a Downloads folder (and then have to cut/paste to reorganize) or to some random OneDrive location, again unfiled, is ridiculous.

While we're at it, the view on the new Outlook definitely needs work.

• The text sizing is different in like 3 different places. That is annoying and hard to read.
• The panels cannot be resized, even though there is a resize slider. It doesn't work.
• When composing a new message on the side panel, not popped out, it doesn't show you the "to" unless you click every.single.time to drop down the top panel to show who you are writing to.
• The whole thing looks like Outlook online. If we wanted outlook online, we'd use it.

Keep the old view/ version and tweak it to add/ improve features, like send later and snooze. Agree as it is, the New Outlook is no good.

Yes, I became so frustrated I just went back to the old version too. I'm not sure if anyone noticed this, but you used to be able to drag a file to a folder of your choice. That's a common time saving feature. Saving it in a place i don't want my files to go to, then moving them to another was costing me time. I'll wait until I "have" to use it .. and if the features are not fixed I'll look at my options then. There were other issues too that didn't make sense. Make the old version better .. don't take away useful older features.

We agree with the comments below. As an Association, our staff are finding it rather tedious to continually retrieve items from their downloads folder. Our Finance Department is struggling the most, as they have to download dozens of files each day to attach to their external accounting software, and store in the relevant folders in SharePoint. It is a pity that this feature was overlooked by developers, especially when this is costing businesses to lose money simply by restricting their productivity.

While we all understand this product is being developed, we believe that it is essential for applications to be released with (at the very least) their most commonly used functions.

We have been using this new software since last year, and are disappointed to return to the office and find the software has not changed. This is especially disappointing given the holiday season and how much we rely on email communication. We hope that the developers take the recommendation to upgrade this feature seriously, and rectify this as soon as possible.

Perhaps Microsoft should notify their uses of a timeline for this completion. It's a small request that should have been attended to as it appeared.

We look forward to seeing a positive turn in the future.

It appears that MS has partially addressed this missing feature in the new Outlook in the last few days?

Now, when the the download button on an attachment is clicked, a File Explorer window opens, allowing the user to select a destination.

A huge improvement, to be sure.

Microsoft: Next step is to restore full drag-and-drop functionality to email attachments!
