How to change download destination in "New Outlook" (May 2023)

I recently switched over to try the "New Outlook". In the older layout version of Outlook, when downloading an attachment I had multiple options on how that attachment could be saved to my computer. The main option I utilized was simply " Save As". In the "New Outlook" version, that option is no longer there. Is there a way to customize the options you see when downloading an attachment? Here are the options it gives:

  • Preview

-Edit in Browser

-Edit in Excel desktop app (it was an excel file in this case)

-Save to OneDrive

-Download

The old options would have:

-Preview

-Open

-Quick Print

-Save As

Save All Attachments

-Upload

-Remove Attachment

-Copy

-Select All

Really looking for the "Save As" option so I can navigate to the final destination folder.

Thanks.

    Dear Nicholas_971,

Thank you for posting to Microsoft Community. We are happy to assist you.

I understand there are limited options when downloading attachments in new Outlook for Windows. I have checked and tested on my side, and I can confirm this feature is still limited in new Outlook. Please note the new Outlook is still in production/preview meaning some of the features are not yet available in new Outlook.

However, thank you so much for bringing this to our attention, your suggestion is very helpful, and I believe it could make the use of Outlook even better. We will surely raise your concerns to our Product Development Team and hopefully this can be included in the future updates.

I recommend you reach out to our dedicated support for new Outlook for Windows within your Outlook, to submit your feedback. Contact support and provide feedback within the new Outlook for Windows - Microsoft Support

Why make this change and we lose valuable options? How do people sort their received files without being able to save to a specific destination?

I'm switching back to the old outlook because this new one is utter ****. Everyone on this development team wasted their time making an inferior product to the one it replaced. To be clear the old outlook sucks too.

This is a big bummer in my opinion as well...

I have found if you choose DOWNLOAD it will download it to your download folder, you can then click to open that file where it gives you the option to PRINT it and another tab in the menu to SAVE AS.

There's a lot of extra steps here which is not a time saver, but it works... else you will have to DOWNLOAD from the dropdown menu and go over to your downloads and change the name and send it over to the folder you wish to save it in.

    Again more work...

Hopefully the team gets this squared away quickly!

I am also seeing a bit more lag out of the new outlook, but I am liking the simplified dashboard and will probably stick it out as I would rather get used to it now than get a sudden notice that I have to change over one day without notice.

No preview option or Save As options is unusable. Forcing every item to "download" folder is crazy. Messy and the opposite of organized.

New O365 seems to have lost most>all basic functionality and what is left requires multiple keystrokes and clicking around to accomplish what was effortless in previous MS Outlook.

Like a stripped down version created to cater to phones/tablets and other dumbed down devices, not what is required in professional workplace scenarios.

Many other apps are slipping this way... using large cards format wasting screen space and requiring extra efforts to navigate and complete tasks. Juvenile graphics, large animated icons and Shockingly ineffective waste of valuable screen space.

Not being "allowed" to select how we view our emails/forced reading pane and unable to auto open emails in separate windows or select our preferred download or preview options is a deal-breaker for me. Switched back to prior version and will check back every few weeks, but not optimistics. Firefox browser tried this recently and at least offers a workaround to edit back to what we need and that is a FREE APP. I wouldn't mind providing feedback via that new outlook app, but unable to use as daily app in it's current state so unlikely to leave feedback as I continue to use previous version. We should not have to petition in large numbers to represent subscribers who prefer adult/business professional versions of legacy apps that we NEED.

Even this "community board" where we are constantly advised by MS staff to provide separate feedback as if we must send individual begging petitions to notify?

Why are the MS staff who are replying/monitoring NOT forwarding and notifying of issues/comments on our behalf, as if they all work for the same team.

Once these functionalities are corrected or enhanced in new version, will be awesome.
