Fake "Microsoft Outlook" robo e-mail

An e-mail from "Microsoft Outlook" automatically shows up within seconds of opening my Hotmail account. The "MO e-mail will not let me send it to junk, delete it, etc. nor, when hovering over the address, does it ID anything about the sender. It does have three options: open it, trash can, or a square with the word Ad in it. The Subject line says: Upgrade Your Account Get the latest premium etc. I close out of Hotmail, even shut down my computer, but the "MO email" shows up within seconds of login. Is there any way to block this (what-I-believe-is-robo) spam? Need help!  Thx.

    Hi Don

Thank you for your reply, I mostly delete emails I don't want and put those from trusted senders into their folders. I have tried blocking these emails through settings but nothing works, I now get these robo mails every time I open my inbox, they are from different companies parading themselves as the genuine company. I even wrote a few down and sent them to ******@.gov.uk which I always do when I get a suspicious email, also to spamdonotpay and block, but some emails coming into my junk are not able to be blocked although I can forward or delete them, or report as phishing. I am really worried as the fact that I bin those that started from ,microsoft but they don't go anywhere, but they must be somewhere, I am running my new security software daily and it says no malware but sometimes it is possible that security packages don't detect it. Microsoft need to address this issue as it started with them, or someone pretending to be them, such a big organisation should be able to track it down. I am going to go through all my files and folders and see if I can spot where these emails are hiding. I thought wiping the PC and reload everything but they will still come in as they come in through the router, neither getting a new PC will do it. I will keep you updated and see if I can find anything, hell I haven't anything else to do, who knows I just might find something

Not exactly what I asked or recommended.

    Again...

    1. You are checking this email account on the web at https://outlook.live.com ? Which browser?
    2. If these are simply emails, mark them as Junk and don't waste time doing anything else. Don't create a rule or worry about your antivirus/security program. Spam and junk mail is harmless so long as you don't click on links.

    Added...

If outlook.com is sending these to Junk, there is nothing else that you can or should do. Just delete them from the Junk folder.

Hi Don, when the first email came in as I thought it was from Microsoft I was using Microsoft Edge. Clicked on it before I realised it was a robo mail. Then could not get rid of it, I have since changed Browsers to Chrome and yesterday had to follow some steps as I was getting constant interruptions on my internet. After that iuninstalled and reinstalled. Touch wood has been alright since, but the robo emails are still coming in, only one at a time on the top line, cannot be marked as junk or deleted or anything, only using the bin icon can I get rid of it, but it does not go to deleted items or anywhere, it just vanishes.

    Hi Don

I am on outlook.com but it is not sending these emails to junk, they are coming into my inbox, I am getting Junk mail which is deleted after 10 days if I don't do it myself, this is where suspicious, spam or junk comes into which is no problem to get rid of

I think we are all wasting our time here. I think Microsoft is fully aware of this and don't care because they want us to buy their pro version.

After decades of using Hotmail, I've finally bit the bullet and opened a Gmail account.

I haven't used it myself, but I think there's a function in Outlook/Hotmail where you can set it to forward your emails to Gmail. Don't quote me on that but I think there's a way to do this.

In any case, I hope this ends up screwing Microsoft in a big way somehow.

    Peace out.

OK. Not your fault but i now know what everyone is complaining about. These are not "fake" ads. They are ads and are really from Microsoft/outlook. These are reportedly replacing the ads on the right side and it appears that not all outlook.com users are seeing this change.

These aren't email messages, that's why they can't be deleted or marked as Junk. An ad-blocker *might* block them. I can't experiment because I'm not yet seeing these. I still see ads on the right side.

Two safe, popular ad-blockers you could try are

    https://adblockplus.org/

    and

    https://ublockorigin.com/

These are both safe but may occasionally block legitimate content. Any ad-blocker can do this.

If an ad-blocker doesn't block these ads, there's really nothing you can do except ignore them.
