New outlook not showing total email count in each folder on windows application

Oh dear, they seem to have fallen into the age old trap of change for changes sake. Unless you can significantly improve on what's on offer then what's the point? To not have an item count is a bit of a joke, but can be ignored. However, what is unacceptable is that despite informing Microsoft of this glaring inadequacy, they insist on repeatedly embarking on a campaign to coerce customers to use it. This is by rather frustratingly enforcing the new outlook upon them when stating "new outlook will open on next start up' not once, not twice, but relentlessly. Microsoft, accept that you have failed some of your customers and allow them the courtesy of choosing the program that works best for them. We are pretty much all aware that the new Outlook is available, some have decided it doesn't work adequately, accept it and let's move on. Especially without the necessity of the tiresome and frustrating process of continually reverting to the old outlook and explaining to our friends in silicon valley why.

Same issue here, for the same reasons everyone else on this thread has described. Absolutely baffling that this simple feature would be removed. I'm trying not to be scared of change, dangit! Do I have to use Old Outlook forever?!

I also have this problem in the new Outlook 2023. A temporary workaround that I use is to 1) Highlight one email (anyone) in the email folder (the Inbox for instance), and 2) press Ctrl+A to select all emails in that folder, and 3) hold down the Ctrl key and deselect one of the selected emails (anyone). Then Outlook shows the number of emails MINUS ONE in that email folder. So if there are 54 emails in my Inbox, Outlook would say "53 items selected".
