I switched to the new outlook and it is no longer showing the total number of emails in each folder.

Hi there - I was running into the same issue but I did find a workaround for now until this (hopefully) shows up again at the bottom of the inbox:

If you hover over the folder you're looking for... and click on the three dots next to the folder name... it will display the number of items in the folder.

Abbey, the issue most are talking about here is at the root level of the email account. Thus, if you have several email accounts you monitor, with the new Outlook it does not show unread messages in the INBOX for each of those accounts next to the email address.

You are correct you can go into an email address and see the message counts by hovering over the 3 dots. But at the higher level you can no longer see this information, as you could with the old Outlook.

The original post does not talk about the root level. It talks about showing for each folder.
But the two are linked, so there is no reason to scold anyone for not talking about the exact same issue you are.
The issue is that new outlook doesn't have a feature to easily show how many e-mails are in a given folder like classic does.

I think it is important that the specific issue be the topic of the thread, though as someone else said with two years of posting and no resolution I wouldn't be holding my breath on a solution.

If multiple issues are combined then the original poster's query is diluted and it risks a separate issue being fixed and the thread being marked as resolved without fixing the original problem. There is a separate thread for the multiple email accounts issue.
