I switched to the new outlook and it is no longer showing the total number of emails in each folder.

This exactly!!!, I'm now being forced to this new abomination mail app every time I open it but with multiple email accounts (and no one single inbox) its EXREMEMELY frustrating to have to click on each mailbox to see if any unread emails.........its not good enough or ready if this is the "normal" now

Surely I'm missing a setting to have a simple view/number/badge next to each account name without having to go into each one to see if any new emails.....that is ridiculous

From many of the replies my original issue seems to be mis-understood. Yes you can go into any mail folder with the new version of Outlook mail and view unread messages. It is at the top level where you may have several email accounts. On the left is the old Outlook Mail app where it shows the number of unread messages in the INBOX for each mailbox, on the left the new Outlook Mail app where it does not show the count of unread mail messages in the INBOX. I believe many have a problem with this basic feature change.

As of May 19, 2024, the issue seems to be resolved on my end. When I hover over the number in my folder, I can see the total amount as well as the unread amount of mail I have in said folder.

Only when you hover over the mailbox within a folder. We are talking about at the root level, where it use to display the number of unread emails for each email addresses INBOX. Anyone monitoring multiple email addresses now needs to open up each one individually to see what is unread.

While it no longer displays in a satus bar at the bottom of the app, you can find out how many emails are in a folder by hovering or right-clicking on the folder. https://support.microsoft.com/en-au/office/display-the-total-number-of-messages-in-a-folder-1f47664e-2468-4f0e-8515-4e0596f9553a
