I switched to the new outlook and it is no longer showing the total number of emails in each folder.

From many of the replies my original issue seems to be mis-understood. Yes you can go into any mail folder with the new version of Outlook mail and view unread messages. It is at the top level where you may have several email accounts. On the left is the old Outlook Mail app where it shows the number of unread messages in the INBOX for each mailbox, on the left the new Outlook Mail app where it does not show the count of unread mail messages in the INBOX. I believe many have a problem with this basic feature change.

Thank you for this clarification, I will never switch until this issue is resolved.

Just hover the mouse over the folder and you will see total items in that folder

I've only been using this "New" Outlook version for about a week and I'm having the same challenges as many of the users in the form.

Yes, you can click on the Inbox and find out the total number of emails but as I'm managing a shared mailbox this doesn't work as I need to see the total emails by the category they have been assigned (each of the users in the mailbox categorizes the email to their name/colour code).

Even when you filter on the cateogry there is no total to say this is how much is in this users mailbox.

This is critical for the success of the team as it allows me to review what the user has outstanding.

Why do they change something when it was working well?

I have not read all the posts but in addition to this I just found that simply hovering the cursor over the folder also gives the total emails and number unread. Not ideal like when I could just see it in the status bar but a path forward. Why don't they test these things?

    Thank you!!!

So just mouse-hover over the folder!

Within 0.5 to 1 second, the tooltip will appear showing the number!

    The tooltip actually indicates:

    <FolderName> - <Nbr Total Items> (<Nbr Unread Items>)

    So this helps a lot.

Though I'm still hoping we'll eventually get back the option to change it to permanently show number of items inside folders we indicate.
