This long thread has moved around a bit as to showing new and total email counts for each "folder" within an email account, and showing the new INBOX email account for each email "account". It seems that the new email count at the account level is the feature that has been removed when comparing old vs new outlook mail app, and is an issue for much of the conversation, even though the original post was discussing the email count badges within an account. Probably should of started a new thread to specifically highlight that issue.

Yes exactly, a lot of similar topics have come in, I was just pointing out that the original problem which started the thread is also unresolved and trying to ensure that it doesn't get lost in the churn. In the old outlook you can set a folder to show either the number of unread emails or the total number of emails within it. Showing the total number of emails in a folder is very helpful for using email management practices such as inbox zero.

No thats not correct, the issue we are all talking about was perfectly shown with pictures by Netmation above

If you scroll to the top of the page you'll see that the title and original post specifically mention folders and that the accompanying image only has one account registered in their instance of outlook. The multiple accounts thing is important too but folders was the original question.

But the issue is at the root level of each email address account, it used to show the number of unread in the inbox next to the email address accounts, without expanding the account to see all the folders.

You can set folders to show total instead of unread as well. If you look at OP's question it seems to be more about folders than individual accounts. There is more than one issue at play in this thread. All are valid and need to be corrected, but the initial question is about folders.
