Feb 5, 2025 - this problem has been driving me crazy forever not seeing folder count in my MS Outlook for Mac Inbox. I searched this thread today to only find there are so many others with the same frustration and then I was doing some of my own testing/checking I actually FOUND the FOLDER COUNT! Maybe someone else in this long thread also found it and kudos!
SOLUTION FOUND: Just sharing it fresh to the top of the thread. RIGHT CLICK the Inbox or any other folder - a dialogue box opens and the top item shown is grayed out . . . there it is . . . it shows folder count "41 Items" then you see the list of items you can click on below that are NOT grayed out..Open in New Window, New Folder, Add to Favorites, etc.
GIVE IT A TRY! I am super excited as it helps in managing your inbox! Hope this helps someone today!

Unfortunately this only works on a per folder basis. Using outlook as a dashboard to manage multiple folders is less functional when it will only display the count in each folder one at a time. If you can see the count's for each folder all at the same time it assists in deciding which folder to attend to. Not that this is impossible with hovering / right clicking. But it is more time consuming.
But if it helps in your situation, you can hover the mouse over the folder without clicking and the total mails will appear though it takes a second so your method is faster.
The main issue is most of us have multiple email addresses in the app
