What happened to Next Item/Previous Item arrows in Outlook 365 for Mac?

My Outlook 365 for Mac recently updated. Previously, when I opened an e-mail message, there were up and down arrows in the upper right that I could use to go to the previous or next message without returning to the Inbox and list of emails. Now, those arrows have disappeared. No similar buttons or arrows are in the ribbon that's now at the top of the screen and I don't find them as options when trying to Customize the ribbon, even though there would be room for additional buttons. (See below.) I also haven't been able to find keyboard shortcuts that would let me go to the next or previous message without returning first to the Inbox.

Thanks for any help with this!

Sorry to sound cynical, but we can't. There's a slim chance the more activity this board has, the more they will prioritize putting it back, but it's a free service and any thing they do is internally decided.

I suspect the "User Experience" gurus on the team that maintains it removed the feature for some reason that's likely related to linger time per email in relation to ads on the page.

There's also a way to link your gmail interface to multiple non-gmail accounts, but for my peace of mind I keep those emails separate.

I'm using Microsoft 365 Outlook on the web from Google Chrome version 103.0.5060.53 (Official Build) (64-bit) on Fedora Linux 36 (Workstation Edition). The previous and next message buttons have disappeared for me as well.

I have Gmail-style shortcuts selected in Settings > General > Accessibility > Keyboard shortcuts. These keyboard shortcuts are working for me (and they're nicer than the other styles because they're single-keyed), but I'd like the mouse buttons back as well please.

    Open the next item: J

    Open the previous item: K

I am experiencing the same problem with a Chrome browser. This is driving me crazy and makes using Outlook very tedious.

I just saw the post that this is some new "feature" in Outlook. No one who uses Outlook from a browser would tolerate the lack of the ability to move from email to email without going back to the Inbox every time over and over again. Please restore this "feature" which every email system has or I will reluctantly have to start looking for a new email package.
