Switch from 'new' Outlook (2023) to 'classic' outlook

I need to go back to the Classic version because the 'new' Outlook lacks some features that I need for work.

This webpage https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/getting-started-with-the-new-outlook-for-windows-656bb8d9-5a60-49b2-a98b-ba7822bc7627 states "You can switch back whenever you want, just switch the toggle off in the new Outlook and it will automatically open the classic version."

There is no toggle. Is there any other way I can undo this update and go back to the previous version?

Once flipped on, the toggle is irrelevant since the "old" version still exists. Just run it. You should still be able to find its shortcut in Start (and wherever else you might have had it before), but if not you will see outlook.exe in one of these places (may vary slightly depending on edition), so if necessary make a new shortcut:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\root\Office16

or here:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\root\Office16

The nice thing about the New Outlook is that it's not an either/or proposition (like New Teams is). You have both old and new. You can even run them concurrently.

But if running that actually runs New Outlook for you (some have reported that's the case), then either:

  1. Uninstall Outlook

or

  1. run Regedit.exe and go here (or the same with 15.0, if you don't have 16.0):

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Outlook\Preferences

And in that you will see UseNewOutlook

Set it to 0, which means that running old Outlook actually runs it.

    I tried out the new version of Outlook yesterday. It was horrible. It crashed 3 times within the first 5 minutes of use. I have tried to file a help ticket, but it crashes before I can finish typing. It is unusable to me...and there is NO WAY TO RETURN TO THE PREVIOUS VERSION

    The solutions offered here don't work, and in fact, don't match up to what my system is showing.

    1. There is no toggle
    2. The string in registry editor doesn't exist. I get to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\ and the options I have are either 15.0 or Common.
    3. there is no Previous version of outlook shown in my start menu.

    Can anyone offer other options...or at least a way I can get in contact with support?

    Cindy: Uninstall Mail then and reinstall it via the Store link above. It's somehow in a confused state now.

    Bragebrokholst: Just use the 15.0 path. With no 16.0, you must have an older version of Outlook, so 15.0 is appropriate. Or you can just uninstall new Outlook.

    I stupidly toggled to the new outlook today from windows mail and after looking through all the comments on here to see if there's a way back, I'm at my wits end. i can't find anything in Regedit. I even uninstalled outlook pre to try and get windows mail back but when i clicked on mail, it told me it needed an app to open and i only had the option to download outlook pre from the Microsoft app store to open it. i desperately need windows mail back, please help.

    Go to Registry Editor [or get by typing registry editor in search taskbar] I have Windows 10, MS Office 2016 Pro/Home, but I didn’t have to use the 2010 version.

    Navigate to:

    Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Outlook\Preferences

    Go to bottom of Name column and select 0 if it’s set to 1.

    Then scroll down from Preferences to Setup and select Migrate and change to 0 if it’s set to 1.
