"New Outlook" preview inbox doesn't refresh

I've been using the new Outlook preview (the one you enable by toggling the "Try the new Outlook" switch in the main Outlook app for Windows) and I love it. It's so much faster than the main version.

Unfortunately, a few weeks ago I noticed that the inbox had stopped updating automatically. I still get notifications that new messages have arrived, and the icon in the task bar indicates that I have unread messages, but when I look at the Outlook window the inbox shows no new messages. I have to click on a different folder and back to the inbox for it to refresh and show the new emails.

Obviously this make the product basically unusable - I can't afford to risk missing important emails - so I keep switching back to the main Outlook app, each time giving feedback about the problem. Every week or so I switch back to the new Outlook in the hope that the issue has been fixed, but so far it hasn't.

This seems like such a fundamental problem that I can't believe it hasn't been fixed, which makes me wonder whether I'm alone in having this issue. I'm using a work account with Outlook and, to be clear, I don't experience the same issue when I'm using the main Outlook app.

Is anybody else having this problem? Is there anything I can do to fix it or is it a problem with the app itself?

I don't recall exactly when I started using the "New Outlook", but I am also plagued by this issue. I have a Pixel Watch and Pixel 7 in addition to my laptop running Windows 11/Microsoft 365; I use the mobile app "Outlook" on my phone, and my watch will show the notifications. I received an email notification on my watch and deleted the email, but it's been over 5 minutes and the email hasn't been removed from my inbox. When I opened Outlook on my phone, the inbox refreshed and THEN the deleted email disappeared, both from the mobile Outlook app and the New Outlook desktop application.

Side question: can we get a Refresh button in the Home ribbon on the New Outlook?

I will not use the workaround because I do not use conversation view for my email apps. Please just mark this as a bug, make it a priority, and give us an ETA on when we can see the fix applied.

The new outlook preview version does not have a sign out window.

    Philip,

Thanks for sharing the knowledge about this issue and workaround and persistence pushing for the fix. What I think would be best to make sure it gets traction is to submit an In App ticket from New Outlook (Help, Support) and share the workaround that is helping to mitigate it. I would put Outlook back in the repro state to submit the bug. This way the logs will show refresh not happening and the workaround will help with context to know the state the bug is occurring. If you have bandwidth to report it, please do.

I checked the bug database and I see active and fixed bugs for this same issue description but it's hard to know if the fix for those bugs will fix this case.

If the workaround is helping in this thread, then I think it would be good to mark it as an answer.
