Emojis freeze Outlook for Mac when replying to email with an emoji in it

Anytime, for several months now, I hit reply to an email that has an emoji within it, Outlook for Mac completely freezes up for a long time. I've created multiple support sessions within Outlook trying to resolve this. They don't understand the issue. Anyone here have any insight? I am on a 2019 iMac running Ventura 13.0. Outlook version is 16.66.1 (22101101). This is a business PC with an Exchange email account on it.

    I'm unsubscribing from this question. I have read answers for a year now, mainly posted by Mac users just as frustrated over this as I am. I'll settle for this problem as MS just don't seem to give a damn. "Leaf the stupid Apple users in the dark" is what they must think at every friday afternoon drink in their sad cubicle offices. Contemplating about switching to Google...

    The last thing that seems to have 'stuck/worked' with no other reports from the person was unchecking "When replying or forwarding, use the format of the original message".

    In tests, me and a colleague wouldn't see the 'pause' but still could compose and call up an emoji without delay and it immediately fixed the issue for the person who was experiencing it.

    No such luck. I just unchecked that and then replied to an email, typed : ) (without the space), and it's still frozen as I type this, with the spinning wheel of eternal confusion.

    Just saw your reply. While using the legacy interface (I switch back and forth regularly) and creating a new message I had the 'pause' happen when generating a emoji but brief..

    Switched back over to new interface and generated an emoji and it was fine..

    As that other person mentioned, it is very frustrating problem. Knock on wood I don't have any more reports from other people we support of observing the same thing. If any more come up will probably try the same steps to fix it and hope it sticks.

    I am not sure why, but switching from the old Outlook format to the new, then composing a message with an emoji and sending it did seem to work. The wheel spun in the new look for a bit. But then I went back to the old Outlook format and tested sending an emoji and all worked without a delay. Strange, but effective... a least for the time being.
