Outlook keep resetting ribbon back to default after changes

In my Outlook (updated Office 365 ClickToRun with Exchange On-line) there are newer ribbon groups I don't have any use for.

New groups (OneNote, 1-click actions, My templates and Add-In) are in the Home- and Message-ribbons.

I've edited the ribbons but as soon I edit f.i. the Home ribbon, the groups are restored back in the Message ribbon. If I edit the Message ribbon, the groups are again restored in the Home ribbon.

I've tried resetting the ribbons and start all over again and I also made an Office repair but nothing helps. It looks like editing one of the ribbons toggles back the default in the other ribbon.

    Just want to say that this reply worked and kept me sane. It should be pinned as "the" solution. I recently had to go back in and make changes to the ribbon as MS Outlook updated and the "Collaborate" tab re-appeared and once again made reference to this solution. FYI - I'm on a company computer with restricted admin rights and still had access to these files and making them read only. Thanks again.

    A partial workaround is to set up your customizations the way that you like, go to %AppData%\Local\Microsoft\Office and backup the officeSL and officeUI files in there. When the office app(s) are closed, overwrite them and launch the application.

    Thank you... I've used everything, and retest software every 2-3 years. Having worked in photo lab software support and production position for MANY years, and primarily use Lightroom/PS, to this day, nothing really comes close to fast viewing and quick web editing. Yes, I still use notepad.exe too!

    As I understand it, Lightroom/Photoshop is aimed more at users requiring professional image processing, however it is not free and requires a paid subscription. On the other hand Fastone Image Viewer, while probably not in the same league as Photoshop, is completely free (not shareware or demo versions) and quite suitable for most people's needs. I use it all the time.

    I'm going back to Office2019! I resisted going from Office 2007 until going to 2016 about ten years ago as it was. I still use the picture manager. It just doesn't show ISO, and is still pretty clunky, but unbeaten by a wide margin. ;)

    Office Picture Manager was indeed useful until it was removed from the Office Suite (I believe it was in Office 2010). However there is a very robust free-ware picture manager with similar features but more editing features than Picture Manager: Fastone Image Viewer FastStone Image Viewer - Powerful and Intuitive Photo Viewer, Editor and Batch Converter

    For opening .iso files you can use the freeware archive application "7zip" 7-Zip
