how to update recurring meeting in Outlook without losing history?

I have recurring client appointments, which I edit if eg. there is a cancellation or a no-show. I need to keep this history.

If I want to reschedule Client X to a different time going forward, then my only option appears to be changing the end date of the recurring series and starting a new one. But that removes all changes made to earlier occurrences.

The only other "solution" seems to be downloading a csv, and uploading it again - what a palaver. Surely there must be an easier way to edit "all occurrences from this point onwards" as you can in the Google calendar?

I can see that this issue has been raised as far back as 2016 - what do we have to do to get it on the wishlist for the next upgrade to Outlook?

Come on Microsoft - Google can do this, so why can't you?

Ri

(Also curious why Outlook doesn't appear under the list of MS 365 & Office apps ??)

Best and most straightforward solution for me has been to use Outlook web version for my calendar, and desktop version for email and everything else.

I set up the web version as one of my browser home tabs and haven't really had to think about it ever since.

Agree with you that the same functionality should be available in desktop as online, but at least it is available online.

    Hope that helps.

100% this issue needs to be fixed ASAP or at least in 2024 for the desktop-based 365. My company blocks the web-based Outlook. This is very annoying, and yes, a compliance issue. I have a recurring calendar appointment for a task I do every weekday. It's set for 9-10 AM every day, but I adjust the time if I have a conflict at that time. I went to update the series to change the Title of the appointment series. and it CHANGED EVERY SINGLE PAST APPOINTMENT BACK TO THE ORIGINAL 9-10AM. I am a stickler for calendaring, time blocking, and keeping track of hours I spent on a task, so it was annoying that it changed a 2-hour time block that I adjusted back to 1 hour! Google calendar does not have this issue. What we want Microsoft to do is have the option to edit only "All occurrences from this point onwards." That way it keeps all calendar appointments in the past in the past. Microsoft, we are BEGGING you to PLEASE fix this. Thank you!

Here is the actual solution to this problem: use the web version of Outlook.

    1. Browse to https://outlook.live.com/calendar
    2. Right-click the element in your series you want to use for "this point onwards"
    3. Click Edit
    4. Click the second of the three choices offered:

    This event

    This and following events

    All events in the series

    Here's a screenshot (I couldn't get the image uploader to work) https://i.imgur.com/3wXBk71.png

And it works if you have added notes to prior events in the series.

YES, that is "A Solution" but NOT "THE Solution".

"THE Solution" would be for Microsoft to employ some corporate "Integrity" and provide its Paying Customers (now that most everyone is subject to a subscription model), the "Feature Parity" across the entire suite of Microsoft Calendaring applications we all deserve.

The "This and all following events" option is ONLY Selectable in Outlook Web client, all others (Desktop versions of Outlook AND TEAMS, as well as TEAMS on the Web) do not have this as a selectable option, nor do they offer a closing choice when saving a series, like they used to do.

This also applies to "Delete" actions as well! We need the "This and all following events" option available in Both actions!!!

This is Gross Negligence on the part of Microsoft Management and this behavior of ignoring something this significant needs to change.

I believe that I speak for everyone here when I say,
"Microsoft, get your act together and put in a concerted and diligent effort to provide 'OPTIONS & FEATURE CONSISTENCY" across your application suite!"

In the meantime, folks, rest assured that you are "currently" able to get around this by using the Outlook Web Client only, and only for as long as MS doesn't ruin it for the rest of us by taking this away too. They better not.

Who here has a good law firm in his or her pocket that can spin up a class action suit that will force some action in this matter and protect OUR CALENDAR DATA from a crippled application?

OWA (O365 Web Access - Outlook Calendar):

Outlook Desktop Client Calendar (NOT available):

MS TEAMS Desktop Client Calendar (NOT available):

Oddly, this missing option is also present in the TEAMS Web Client too!!!!

    Hello,

This works...unless you want to change the attendees. I don't want to have to create a new instance every time we have a new employee join the team or an existing employee leave the team. The option to edit This and All Following Events doesn't work if you are updating the attendees.

    Ugh!

Just tried this and lost 7 years of history. This does not work.

Here's how you can update a recurring meeting series without losing the history: Open the meeting series in Outlook. Click on "Recurrence" in the ribbon to open the "Appointment Recurrence" dialog. Update the end date of the current series to the date before the change takes effect. Click "OK" to save the changes to the current series. Now, you'll need to create a new recurring meeting series with the updated time, starting from the date you want the new time to take effect: Create a new meeting appointment in Outlook.
