Using Classic Outlook on Windows for personal email, calendar, and contact management
I so feel your pain on this one! It is extremely annoying and seems like it should be simple enough to fix.
This browser is no longer supported.
Upgrade to Microsoft Edge to take advantage of the latest features, security updates, and technical support.
I have recurring client appointments, which I edit if eg. there is a cancellation or a no-show. I need to keep this history.
If I want to reschedule Client X to a different time going forward, then my only option appears to be changing the end date of the recurring series and starting a new one. But that removes all changes made to earlier occurrences.
The only other "solution" seems to be downloading a csv, and uploading it again - what a palaver. Surely there must be an easier way to edit "all occurrences from this point onwards" as you can in the Google calendar?
I can see that this issue has been raised as far back as 2016 - what do we have to do to get it on the wishlist for the next upgrade to Outlook?
Come on Microsoft - Google can do this, so why can't you?

(Also curious why Outlook doesn't appear under the list of MS 365 & Office apps ??)

I also have this issue. I used to be able to update notes within a recurring calendar entry, and it would ask me "save for this and all future events". This was an option IN ADDITION to "edit entire series" or "edit just this occurance". Needless to say it's EXTREMELY upsetting that the options have changed and that there it no fix. =(
I wonder if this responder is a bot. They gave the same bad advice both times from a script it looks like. I agree with Ri_ARCS it is easily done in Google Calendar and for Outlook desktop app to be used by so many businesses where something like this is necessary, this should be a no brainer update.
I don't want deleted or changed meetings to reappear, especially if notes are sent and the time in my calendar is now different when actually the meeting occurred. I am surprised it has not been an audit issue for some businesses. Plus ending and creating adding a meeting series, especially when interfaced with Teams, generates a whole new stream of chat and shared information.
Maybe if some of the big companies using outlook would put pressure on MS they would correct this issue.
Hello
I am Abdal and I would be glad to help you with your question.
I understand the challenge you're facing with updating recurring meetings in Outlook without losing history.
Here's how you can update a recurring meeting series without losing the history:
Open the meeting series in Outlook. Click on "Recurrence" in the ribbon to open the "Appointment Recurrence" dialog. Update the end date of the current series to the date before the change takes effect. Click "OK" to save the changes to the current series. Now, you'll need to create a new recurring meeting series with the updated time, starting from the date you want the new time to take effect:
Create a new meeting appointment in Outlook.
Click on "Recurrence" in the ribbon to open the "Appointment Recurrence" dialog. Set the start date to the date you want the new time to take effect, and set the recurring pattern and end date as needed. Click "OK" to save the new recurring series.
By following these steps, you'll preserve the history of the original series while creating a new series with the updated time.
As for your question about why Outlook doesn't appear under the list of MS 365 & Office apps, it's possible that your list may be customized or based on your previous usage. However, Outlook is indeed a part of the Microsoft Office suite and Microsoft 365.
I hope this information helps.

Abdal
Hi Leon
I'm pleased to say that this worked - UNTIL I wanted to change the end date of a running appointment.
As soon as I had to edit the whole series (which is the only way to change the end date), it reverted to saying everything in the series would have to be the same again:
Changing the end date of an ongoing appointment (or more usually adding one, rather than changing one) is unavoidable. We book clients in on an ongoing basis until they are ready to exit our service.
So even though I could edit the series "from this point forward", adding an end date undid it all again.
Net result - problem not solved. Please would you add to the wishlist:
- That the current functionality in the online calendar be brought into the desktop version
- That it be possible to add an end date without deleting all prior edits
Thanks
Ri
This actually worked for me on the web version. Changing the end date did not change previous edits. I took the following steps:
